Master the Techniques That Will Allow you to Play Great Classical Works

I've been teaching piano for over 15 years to students of all ages. I studied classical piano under the tutorship for an classical pianist from Oberlin Conservatory and am currently on the piano faculty at Music and Arts in Franklin, TN. I'd love to help you! You will get a excellent foundation for technique, style, sight-reading, harmony, and repertoire than will transfer to any other genre. Beginning students will start with a foundation for technique and apply these to basic repertoire, learn to read music, and play scales. Intermediate and beyond will build and improve on these skills to learn classical repertoire and more complex pieces.

About Natalie L.

4.8
(29)
Natalie is a NYU and BMI Workshop trained composer of songs, musicals, and concert music who has helped many songwriters find their voice and fine-tune their skills. She is particularly adept at identifying what is keeping a song from working (whether it be music, lyrics or both) and helping writers get to the heart of what they want to say. Natalie is also a classically trained pianist, currently on the piano faculty at Music and Arts. Natalie's work has been heard in New York at Lincoln Center, 54 Below, The Duplex, Laurie Beechman Theatre, The Flea Theatre, and Greenwhich Music House, as well as in San Diego, LA, and Nashville. She wrote the music, book and lyrics to HOME/FRONT which was produced in 2014 to sold-out audiences, and was a semi-finalist in the New York New Work Festival. She most recently wrote the music and lyrics for an episode in New Musical Inc's webseries SO PROUDLY WE HAILED. Other musicals include: A Morning in New York, 1974 (reading 356 Studios, New York, NY), Hall Pass ("Flyers and Fryers," produced by Blindspot Collective), Club Meds (reading, Mad Horse Theatre), and "Performance Anxiety" (music/lyrics, The Flea Theatre, Raw Impressions Musical Theatre Marathon). She is listed in The Directory of Contemporary Musical Theatre Writers at Contemporary Musical Theater. Natalie holds a Masters in Music Composition and Theory from New York University where she studied songwriter and concert composition with Dr. Steven Rosenhaus. Natalie is an alumnus of the famed BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York whose other alumni include Alan Menken, Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, Frozen), Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), Tom Kitt (next to normal), and Flaherty & Ahrens (Ragtime). She also studied songwriting through the Johnny Mercer Workshop at Northwestern University with Craig Carnelia, and Andrew Lippa, Nashville songwriter Lari White, and Amanda McBroom ("The Rose"). Natalie loves working with composers and songwriters of all ages and ability levels. Please click on individual lessons to learn more. "I took composition lessons with Natalie and looking back on my work before starting with her, it was scattered, lacked structure, needed honing. She is already a crazy talented composer herself and it translates to her teaching. Natalie is really great at asking the right questions. Why did you write this? What are you trying to say with this piece? What feeling are you trying to tap into with those chords? I can attest to writing with much more confidence and just as important, REWRITING with much more confidence. If the song doesn't work she will let you know but subsequently, she will let you know what DOES work and what to build on. Very supportive, as well as very critical, in the best possible way. It means she cares about the work you're creating. So much so that after running several rounds of rewrites by her, I completely trust the product I am putting out there. I will continue to come back to Natalie to hone my craft." -- Tristan S, composition student, New York, NY
