SAT test prep, when done right, can be very rewarding. I helped my last student raise her composite SAT score by over 100 points after just 8 lessons!

Given my background and experience in tutoring algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and precalculus, I have helped countless high school students with test prep for the SAT math sections. SAT math requires a different way of looking at math problems and applying concept skills to solve them. Students work with me on practice sets and practice tests so they can learn how to dissect problems in a quick, practical way and find the right answers. Their time management and test taking skills improve through regular test prep as they master how to navigate both the calculator and no-calculator sections. I also tutor students for the SAT Subject Tests, SAT II Math Level 1 and SAT II Math Level 2. Since Level 1 focuses on Euclidean geometry concepts and Level 2 highlights precalculus, concept review may be necessary. I then drill students through practice material so they are prepared for the test format and can aim for that perfect score of 800.

During all the years I’ve tutored students for the SAT Reading section, I show them exactly how to break down the material in each passage into plain English, interpret the questions as simple directions, and use the best strategies to find the right answers. We also go over the passage categories and key question types for each category. Throughout our lessons, students work constantly on practice material to exercise their analytical thinking skills and improve their reading comprehension. As challenging as this section is, they can learn how to beat the time limit and still score high.

Moreover, I have tutored many students for both the SAT Writing/Language section and the SAT Essay section. The writing section expects students to understand basic grammar rules and writing mechanics, while the essay section expects college-ready writing skills. My approach for SAT Essay prep is to map out the structure, development, and organization students need to write a strong essay response; I critique their practice essays so they can improve their writing and exceed the test standards. Prep for the SAT Writing/Language section includes a review of correct sentence structure, organization, word and grammar usage, and paragraph development. I help students find repeating mistakes, understand those mistakes, and avoid future mistakes through regular drills and practice. I believe anyone can reach a perfect score in this section, so we work to achieve that.

About Natalie G.

During the past 9 years, my goal as a tutor has been steadfast: I want to help you help yourself. As the saying goes, you have to be open to accepting help before you can be helped. I understand that because we are all students our entire lives; I know from my own experience how hard it is to learn any subject and how much harder it is to find the right teacher. Now I explain the same concepts I've mastered to countless children and adults who need my help. I provide guidance, full support and a boatload of knowledge. I adopt methods that are simple, clever and time-saving, and I adapt to individual learning needs.

I have a deep appreciation for mathematics and what it really teaches — discipline, determination, critical thinking — and I am here to prove to you that you can excel at it, too! With over 2500 hours of math tutoring experience, I specialize in basic math, all areas of algebra, trigonometry and precalculus, and geometry for students in 1st through 12th grade, college and university. For high school students, that includes Math 1, Math 2, Math 3, and Integrated Math, and for college students, beginning (introductory) algebra, intermediate algebra, and advanced math. I am familiar with Common Core curriculum.

Though I've been a great reader all my life, I have been working as a professional writer and editor for over 10 years. I offer writing coaching and editing services as well as reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary help. I don't just teach you how to write: I show you how to translate your thoughts into a fluent composition of words on a page. Real constructive criticism is another tool I use to help you build on your skills and reach your true writing potential.

For test preparation, I focus on concept review, strategy/approach, and time management. I've worked the most with students preparing for the ASVAB, ACT, SAT, CBEST, ISEE, SSAT and GRE. One student increased her overall SAT score by 100 points after just 8 lessons, while another raised his AFQT score by 15 points and now has a great career in the Air Force. CBEST test takers have also been incredibly successful, bringing their scores up by as high as 20 points after lessons with me. I help students pinpoint their struggle areas and conquer them so they can reach their score goals.
