    About Nancy M.

I've been in the music industry for over 27 years, mainly as an independent singer, songwriter, and recording artist. I was Assistant Editor of American Songwriter magazine and an Artist Relations rep for a CD distribution company. I've also been an instructor at NSAI, SGA, and SAE, and have spoken at major music conferences such as NSAI's Spring Symposium, Advanced Song Camp, and TAXI's Road Rally. I toured nationally as a solo performer and with a group. I have performed in a wide variety of venues such as coffeehouses, bars, restaurants, and music clubs, as well as in larger venues like theatres, concert halls, and performing arts centers. I've also done private and corporate events. So, I can teach you extensively about performing, booking, and touring. I recorded and released four of my own CDs. So, I can help you with your recording project from pre-production to release & promotion. Since I came off the road, I have focused mainly on being an Artist Development Coach because I love to help other artists and musicians thrive and share their music. I work with anyone willing to make a commitment to their music career. But my specialty is working with musicians, artists, composers, etc. who are "not quite mainstream" and those "second-timers" who are coming back to music after a long hiatus. If you feel like you fall between two genres, or if you've been told you're not commercial enough, I can help you. Just because someone told you "no" or the "industry" doesn't "get you," doesn't mean you can't have a completely successful music career! It just means you have to go about it a different way. If you're coming back to music and you don't understand all of this Internet and social media stuff because it wasn't there when you left, never fear. I can help you learn new skills and you can learn to carve out your own niche. I tend to attract singer/songwriters and recording artists, but I can also work with songwriters, composers, producers, and musicians. So, if you're having trouble getting your music career off the ground, then maybe you need some help. You take lessons for your voice, or for your instrument (guitar, piano, etc.). Why not take lessons for your business and your career?

    Experience

    Instructor & Mentor

    Nov, 2004 - Present

    TAXI Road Rally

I've delivered workshops, spoken on panels, and served as a mentor for the TAXI Road Rally since 2004. My workshops tend to be focused on Booking & Touring, Alternative Music Marketing, Business Strategy, and Mindset Mastery topics.

    Performing Artist

    Apr, 2004 - May, 2012

    The Four Bitchin' Babes

I recorded and toured nationally with this all female, highly regarded troupe. We sang four-part harmonies and delivered a highly entertaining & comedic show filled with original music that we arranged and performed. We played mostly performing arts centers and theatres (600 to 2000 seats) and we appeared on numerous radio & TV shows in support of our tours. This is one of the highlights of my career for me, as I learned so much about performing, especially with a group.

    Instructor

    Jul, 2003 - Jun, 2010

    SongU.com

I taught online courses at SongU.com on Making & Releasing a Record, Alternative Music Marketing, and Booking & Touring for many years.

    Assistant Editor

    Apr, 2001 - May, 2004

    American Songwriter Magazine

While working for the magazine, I got the chance to write articles, review CDs, work with publishers and record labels, interview artists, edit and proofread copy, judge songwriting contests, and attend many songwriter events & conferences. Through my many interactions with major industry professionals, I picked up a ton of experience and knowledge about publicity and promotion, getting reviews and feature articles, networking, and more. I eventually had my own Q&A column where I answered the many questions that came into the office from our readers.

    Artist Relations Rep

    Aug, 1998 - Oct, 2000

    Songs.com

This was an online CD distribution company - one of the first of its kind, actually. It was before CDBaby. I was one of 5 people who worked with our 400+ artists. We were in charge of selling their CDs online and we worked with artists to develop and maintain an online presence. (This is when most artists didn't have things like their own website.) So, I learned a lot about distribution, online marketing, and even many artist management skills through this position.

    Performing Artist & Musicpreneur

    May, 1991 - Present

    Azalea Music Group

I quit my day job after releasing my first CD on my own record label in 1991 so that I could go full time into music. I moved to Nashville in 1993 and released three more solo records since then. I've been my own booking agent, manager, admin, publicist, publisher, and record label my entire career...not to mention that I write my own material that I perform. I still perform occasionally in Nashville and at special events.
