    About Morrigan K.

    Dr. Morrigan O'Brien Kane is a freelance flutist and teacher in Cincinnati, OH. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts (2012), Master of Music (2008), and Bachelor of Music (2007) degrees in flute performance at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Flute at Miami University of Ohio. She also maintains a large private studio in West Chester. Dr. Kane began her musical training at the age of 10, studying both piano and flute. Morrigan won first prize in the National Flute Association High School Soloist Competition in 2003 and was selected as one of 6 semi-finalists for the National Flute Association Young Artist Competition the following year. She also competed in several other national competitions, placing third in the 2005 Frank Bowen Young Artist Competition and competing as a finalist in the 2005 Myrna Brown Young Artist Competition. In the summer of 2003, Morrigan traveled to Gothenburg, Sweden to study with Swedish flutist Goran Marcusson in his "Nordic Flute" seminar. In 2006, she traveled to Lucca, Italy where she performed in the festival orchestra for the Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca. Morrigan's principal teachers have included Randy Bowman, Dr. Bradley Garner, and Jack Wellbaum. She has performed in masterclasses for Emmanuel Pahud, Jim Walker, Goran Marcusson, Jean-Michel Tanguy, Jill Felber, Randy Bowman, Brad Garner, and Jack Wellbaum. Dr. Kane currently teaches students age 7-adult from the Greater Cincinnati area. Her students have received numerous honors and have consistently won chairs in area youth orchestras, honor bands, and Ohio All-State ensembles. As a high school student in the Cincinnati area, Morrigan participated in the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra and the Great Miami Youth Orchestra for four years. She was also principal flute in the Ohio All-State ensembles for three years. Morrigan won the prestigious Overture Awards Competition at the Aronoff Center in 2002. She also performed as a soloist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra and was the featured artist at the 2003 Hamilton Mozart Festival. Dr. Kane performs for weddings, funerals, and other special events in the Cincinnati area. She also performs as a substitute flutist with several area orchestras, including the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra.
