Hi there! My name is Moriah, and I have been teaching private voice and piano lessons for 5 years. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelors of Arts in Music, emphasis in Music Industry Studies, including voice and performance training. I have studied with/been coached by Martin Green from Citrus College, Dr. Susan Ali and Kendra Vuk from Cal Poly Pomona, Natalia Bortolotti, and Aretha Scruggs. I specialize in singing and teaching commercial styles, particularly pop, rock, and soul, but my approach to all commercial vocal practice is derived from classical traditions, mainly from the Swedish-Italian school of vocal production. No matter your skill level or background, you can be assured that you will receive a solid foundation in theory and technical skill through our lessons. In addition to voice, I also teach all levels of piano! If you're interested in playing this incredibly versatile instrument, I will gladly help you develop your talent. My piano instruction style is based on how you learn as a student. I have taught by the book, by ear, and by example. Whichever your learning style, I have the skills to accommodate you. As an avid songwriter, I can guide you through the songwriting process, show you how to write melodies that fit your range and vocal timbre, and give you tips to improve your songs. I also specialize in audition and performance preparation for both voice and piano. In addition to helping you strengthen your technique and prowess in voice and piano, I will teach you how to maintain your progress and prime yourself for continuous growth. You will never feel judged or put down in your lessons with me. I make it my mission to foster an environment of encouragement, self-esteem, and fun. However, like a personal trainer, I will hold you accountable, because I want to see you excel and stand out in your musical endeavors. I want you to thrive as a musician. I look forward to our first session together!

If you are looking for a very skilled and knowledgeable vocal instructor, Moriah is exactly that and then some. I started lessons with her right about the time COVID had started and our sessions have been done online. Over the course of a few months, I have felt and heard the improvement in my singing abilities through her guidance. So if you have any doubts about taking lessons online (ignoring the current situation), rest assured that you'll be in good hands with her. She will make sure you understand and fully grasp the concepts and techniques that she teaches you and how to apply them. Even if it takes hearing the most ridiculous analogy for you to comprehend it. Every lesson caters to what you're working on or need more assistance with. So every warm up or exercise has purpose. You also have the freedom of selecting the song you'd like to work on which makes the experience all the better and more personal. I had developed bad singing habits after attempting to teach myself several times in the past. Like many others, I also hate the sound of my own voice. Moriah though has been patient as well as supportive and helped me undo those bad habits. She's also taught me to have better control, have stronger breath support, how to analyze the phrasing and pronunciation of a lyric, know proper resonance placement, and be more confident about my voice. A big part of picking a coach or instructor is being able to connect with them and building a good rapport. Moriah has a welcoming and supportive personality, but knows the meaning of hard work and persistence and she will expect that in order for you to progress. I have a ways to go until I reach where I would like to be in my journey of singing, but I chose Moriah and there have been no regrets.

Moriah is a great Singing teacher. I couldn't hold a tune. Moriah helped me overcome a fear of singing in front of people after I had bad experiences with other music teachers. She had faith in me. After several lessons I now can sing in tune!! Thanks Moriah for helping me do what I love to do-Sing!

When I first met Moriah, I was a little hesitant to continue lessons with her because she was in her 20s like myself. I wanted someone, I guess, older to be my instructor. The older they are, the more they know, the more they can teach right? ...........Well, Moriah is one heck of a smart woman when it comes to music theory, and ear/vocaltraining! She knows what she is talking about and even more so, knows how to explain it in a way YOU will understand. She will work with you until you are able to grasp what she is trying to teach, even if you have to try a million different methods before the right one is found. She would rather spend time with you in fully understanding something then just pushing you along. She is open to questions, comments and concerns you have. Moriah is very aware of the concept of “one size does NOT fit all”, and she will customize your session to your needs, and skill level. Her lessons usually start of with a couple of stretches (usually just upper body). This is to help relax your body, jaw, mouth, etc before singing. Then she will do some vocal warms that at first seem pretty basic, and not intense, but they will help you in the long run! Trust me. Then she will practice with you a song you want to try to sing or need help with. As you progress, she will have you work on reading music and other skills. (Course, she is open to working on anything more or less as you need). Once again, your lesson is customized on what YOU need. I’ve been working with her since July 2018. I know that I have improved on ear training immensely! I am able to pick up melodies much faster than before. I am able to sing more powerful than before which is something I struggle with consistently. She will push you! She will take you out of your comfort and push you to have confidence in yourself. She has a great personality. Kind. Fun. Energetic. Intelligent beyond her years. I’m continuing to take lessons with her until she makes me the next Beyoncé or something. So I highly recommend her. Book a few lessons with her, attend them, don’t forget to take your water, and a recoding device, be responsible and take it serious because she is taking you serious. After all you’re paying for the lessons. You want to improve. And you will. I’m looking forward to continue working with her and be stretched more.
