I enjoy encouraging my students to become an "all around" guitar player meaning learn chords, notes, rhythm and timing, your favorite songs and even some neat solos. I do this by using many different books and not only stick to one until the end. I also use a beginner drum method book during drum lessons which is easy to read and grasping the basics.
