Hi! My name's Monica, and I'm a professional cellist and cello teacher, and I also manage the Boston Cello Ensemble. In 2015, I graduated from Boston University with a bachelor's degree in music (cello) performance, summa cum laude. My primary cello professor at BU was Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet, and I have also studied or attended masterclasses with members of the Boston Symphony, LA Phil, and National Symphony Orchestra. I've also attended well-known music festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival and School where I studied with Professor Aaron of the Juilliard School.

As a performer, I enjoy playing classical and non-classical music. I've performed as a substitute cellist in the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, but I've also performed in a Boston-based folk/Americana band.

Over the years, I've taught private cello lessons independently and through a music school. I've taught children and adults, and I believe that anyone at any age can learn to play the cello. I aim to make lessons enjoyable with the understanding that different students have different goals and learning styles. I've taught students hoping to attend a music conservatory and others who've asked me to arrange Taylor Swift pop songs for cello.

My hope is that my students learn to develop a genuine interest in music and cello, but also, I hope that they learn that the skills they learn from studying the cello like critical thinking, creativity, and disciplined practice, are transferrable to many other parts of life.

Thanks for checking out my profile and feel free to book a lesson or reach out with any questions!
