I am a certified teacher in Texas, certified to teach all subjects from Early Childhood through sixth grade. (This means I am background checked. You can check my information with TEA, I am just not paying for a second one when most of my students will be adults.) I am mother to four kids, plus three stepchildren whom I love as if I gave birth to them. I've been a leader in both Boy and Girl Scouts, worked as a youth director in several churches, and I currently volunteer with the debate team and band at my daughters' high school. I stay busy, but teaching art makes me happy!
I have privately taught art for six years, but I have been an artist all my life. I still do graphic design on the side. Logo design is one of my favorite activities in the design arena. Currently, my favorite thing to paint is shoes. My favorite pair is a pair of high top Converses with Paris at night on one, and London at night on the other, but I have painted dozens of designs. I love dirty pouring and impressionism as far as fun projects with acrylics. I also like to do linoleum block prints, and clay sculpture. Helping other people find and appreciate their creative side is one of my passions!
My daughters and I currently give both group and one-on-one private art lessons. We also do mural work for local schools and businesses.
I an arts-integrated math and science class for leadership and gifted students in first grade. We integrate the arts into our daily lessons, learning about both an art form and the content area at once. Each subject helps the student learn the other.
I worked as a special education aide in a self-contained classroom of 5th - 8th graders, but I taught the class for about six months as a long-term sub. At the point my sub job was over, I was hired on as an aide while I finished my degree. I used art to teach all subjects in this class, as it was engaging to all of the students and made behavior issues decrease and content retention increase.+ Read More
