I am a classical violinist and art educator who loves to share the gift of music with anyone who has a desire to learn! I am a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor's degree in Art History, but I have received formal classical violin training since the age of six. I acquired my classical violin instruction from Richard Adkins, Alan Carter, and Jesse Gross, whom are each honorable musicians and masters of the violin! As well as participating in numerous solo recitals, I have played in every school orchestra since 2nd grade. My most recent participation has been in the Long Beach Community Orchestras (Chamber and Symphony) and Orchestra Northern Arizona. While I am a native of Long Beach, CA, I lived in Arizona from 2010 to 2011, where I taught violin at the Flagstaff School of Music. I have been a private violin instructor for the past seven years, while also assisting music classes in elementary and middle schools. My well-rounded musical training and experience makes me an excellent teacher for children and adults, beginning to intermediate. Whether you are just picking up the violin for the first time, you would like to strengthen your technique, or you need help with your orchestra music for school, I will help you achieve and surpass your musical goals! *** Lesson Details *** The violin may be the most beautiful instrument in the world, but learning it can be quite difficult! I am here to help make the learning process more enjoyable! My teaching style is fairly laid back. In order to learn the violin and have it resonate, you must be comfortable and relaxed. Building relationships with each student and making connections is ideal. Why do you want to play the violin? Whenever I meet a student for the first time, I like to know about his or her motives and goals associated with learning the violin. This helps us create a learning path that is favored by both of us! Before each lesson, I like to go over an objective for the day/week so we can see our goals more clearly. Standard lesson: scales, warm-up exercises, technique exercises, rhythm exercises, solo piece and/or working on orchestra music. Music theory is incorporated throughout. *While I am a classical violinist and teach a classical regimen, I am inspired by many other types of music from world to electronic. If you are inspired to learn a song from a different genre, I can help you write the sheet music and make it happen! Beginning violinist: Hearing the violin being played (live/cd/video), learning the parts of the violin and its accessories such as rosin and a chin rest, spending time getting comfortable with holding the violin and bow properly, introduction to open notes (E, A, D, G), introduction to violin and bow holding technique. *With young beginning violinists, I like to incorporate games that make learning the parts of the violin and notes more fun! Games also help the information stick with children better! Standard beginning curriculum: -Muller Rusch, String Method for Class or Individual Study, Book 1 -A Practical Method for Violin by Nicolas Laoureux, Part 1 -String Builder by Samuel Applebaum, Book 1 & 2 -First Etude Album for Violin by Harvey S. Whistler -Suzuki Violin School Vol. 1 & 2 Standard intermediate curriculum: -Hrimaly, Scale-Studies for the Violin -Wohlfahrt, Foundation Studies for the Violin, Book II -Wohlfahrt, Sixty Studies for the Violin, Book i -Mazas, Seventy-Five Melodious and Progressive Studies for Violin, Book I After 3 months, you will be able to identify the parts of the violin as well as the sound of an open G, D, A, and E note. You will be able to properly hold the violin (a work in progress) and you will be able to read simple notes on sheet music. Depending on the pace of your progress, you may be able to play a beginning song from the 1st Suzuki book! Learning the violin is always a work in progress and there is always room for improvement! Never give up because being able to play the violin is honorable and it may open many doors for you! *** Studio Equipment *** 2 violins, 2 music stands, violin accessories (rosin, tuner, metronome), music curriculum, recorder, and cd player. *** Travel Equipment *** I violin, 1 music stand, music curriculum, and violin accessories (rosin, tuner, metronome). *** Specialties *** I specialize in violin technique.

Miranda is an excellent violinist and also has the skill of teaching! I have enjoyed working with her over the last few months and as an adult beginner I feel that I have made much progress. She recommends books and has even given me "take-aways" for my at home practice. I look forward to working with her throughout my musical career and recommend her to those who are new or who want to expand their musical talents. She calm, collected and comfortable to learn from and genuinely cares about her students.

Miranda has been my private teacher off and on for about three years and I have learned so much. With her help I was able to get into my high school symphony orchestra as well as many other accomplishments like Ohlendorf orchestra, vibrato, etc. Also, if I have any questions about my piece's she will always help me!

    Experience

    Violin Instructor

    Jan, 2011 - Oct, 2011

    Flagstaff School of Music

At Flagstaff School of Music in Flagstaff, Arizona, I taught violin to beginning and intermediate level students ages 5 and up. I really enjoyed my experience working at this music school because the owners are very community-oriented and emphasize the relationship between instructor and student.
