Hey there, everyone!
My name is Milton Carl Jackson II and I teach vocal, guitar, piano, and musical theatre lessons in the Inland Empire area.
I help those young, middle-aged, and not-as-young tap into their own soul through music so that they may help others find theirs as well. I believe that in order to entertain others with your voice or your instrument, one must first be able to entertain oneself - all the while having fun doing it! As a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a double major in Music History & Ethnomusicology and African-American & African Studies; a former co-host of the popular hip-hop radio show ATF Radio: All Things Fresh on KDVS 90.3 FM; a former Music Director of The Afterglow of UC Davis; and a recently graduate of the University of Redlands with a Master's in Music Education, I have come in contact and learned from a vast amount of different musicians and professionals. A classically-trained bass-baritone with roots in R&B, Soul, Rock, Pop, and Jazz, I have aspirations to help each and every student realize their full musical potential.
If you're looking for a teacher who will motivate and inspire you not only to learn your instrument of choice, but also how to perform it (whether on the big stage or in your living room for the family) and record it as well, I'm the perfect teacher for you. Learning to sing, play, and act beautifully doesn't have to be difficult -- we'll work on finding your voice or your style, all while having fun along the way!
I teach in-studio, in-home, and online lessons, so we can be flexible with the lesson type and schedule!
This is a perfect chance for you or your child who can't stop singing around the house or has dreams of shredding on the guitar or twinkling on the ivories to learn the fundamentals of music, start something new that keeps them or you focused, and have fun while doing it!
Feel free to contact me at show contact info for any questions and check out my student reviews and qualifications.
I look forward to meeting you and accompanying you or your child on your musical journey!!
Vocal, Guitar, Piano, and Theatre and Film Acting Instructor
Milton is a very professional voice coach. He takes his time to explain everything and he knows what he is talking about!
Cancelled last minute twice.
Milton is a great teacher! He is friendly and made my son feel comfortable immediately. He is very knowledgeable in knowing where to start with a student with zero previous training. His resume is impressive as well.
He is a great instructor and my daughter has improved her vocals so much since she started!!
Very flexible and communication is always on point.
I don't have another instructor to compare, and this was only the first lesson, but he seems to meet all of the qualifications I am looking for. He was patient and created a calm environment. I am looking forward to continuing my learning with him.
My son was close to giving up on piano because he was struggling with dynamics. Rather than quit piano, we decided to try switching to a new teacher. My son started lessons with Milton a year ago and is now enjoying piano again. In working with Milton, my son realized that his former teacher did not cover music theory and felt lost at times during the lessons. We brought this to Milton's attention, and Milton made the necessary adjustments to keep my son feeling good about the lessons.+ Read More
It was great! I was really nervous but Milton is very patient and encouraging. I know I am going to enjoy this process.
Background - I took my niece to Rockstars of Tomorrow for singing lessons and, to keep it short, they were not a good fit for us.
Milton is a great teacher, he identified key areas of improvement and had passion for what he did. I would hire Milton again as a teacher in the future and highly recommend him.
So much fun!
This was my daughter's first lesson and she was very happy with what he showed her. She can't wait for the second lesson!! I like that her gave her something to work on until she has her next lesson!
Extremely polite, informative and intelligent! Will be taking consecutive lessons. I learned so much about strengthening my voice and pitch in just one lesson.
Today was my grandson's first lesson. We give Milton 5 stars.
Milton is very friendly and fun. My son enjoys learning piano with him because he is extremely patient and he shows that he loves teaching piano.
My first lesson went a lot better than I anticipated all with the help of Milton. He taught me the basics & simple exercises I could do at home to continue practicing.
Wonderful instructor! Milton has a great attitude and is a joy to be around. My son loves learning from him and we are very thankful for finding such a patient, creative and skilled instructor. Student's Review - Milton is an exciting and fun guitar teacher. He has exceeded expectations and made otherwise bland lessons interesting and fun. He is always quippy and easy to be around. Having him as an instructor has made me grow to love the guitar even more.+ Read More
Milton is a great teacher! He explains everything, teaches you theory and proper techniques. He is down to earth and makes you feel comfortable. He pushes you out of your comfort zone, but in a good way so that you can grow as a singer. I am very glad I chose to take lessons with him!
Milton has done wonders with my daughter. I definatly recomend him and appreciate everything he has tought her. Thank you!
Excellent Vocal Teacher
Milton is a very patient vocal teacher. I have taken vocal lessons in the past and never learned so much as when Milton teaches. I have only had a couple of lessons with him and have learned so much already. He is teaching me the correct way to sing and breath and am currently getting used to singing the way he taught me. Very happy.
Milton is a great instructor! He is very knowledgable and extremely patient! He's helped me find confidence in being able to sing with positive reinforcement. I'm looking forward to more lessons! Highly recommended.
Milton is hands down AMAZING! :)
I've been with Milton for about almost a year already and he is just amazing! In the beginning I was very nervous to take singing lessons but Milton came in with a positive attitude. Milton is very friendly, funny, professional and always enthusiastic when asking questions about music. I use to be very shy, "never want to sing in front of people" type of girl, but ever since I started lessons with him, I sing all the time in front of people, starting to perform on stage, built A LOT of confidence, and found what type of musician I am. All the things he teaches me is VERY USEFUL, I apply everything we learn to my music and it has made a huge difference. I've come to learn that the tiniest things count! I highly recommend him and you'll have the best time!
Very good experience, recommend Milton as an excellent teacher
Milton is very professional with great teaching and people skills. Being immature singer I feel comfortable and encouraged. Great experience!
Milton has knowledge and skills that makes him the man for the job. I'm glad we found Take Lessons and an instructor like Milton. I recommend both.
Milton is a very good and knowledgeable singing instructor, especially being one so young. He is clear in his instructions and makes my husband and me feel like he will be able to teach us to "sang" one day. He is not only teaching us voice but also explains the dynamics of the sounds, shapes, posture, etc that goes along with learning to sing properly. I'm looking forward to the day when we actually put everything he's teaching us into words and music.
Milton has a great personality and welcomes you the minute you walk through the door. He is very kind and patient and has helped me improve a lot in just a matter of a few lessons!! Milton is super funny and easy to work with and he pushes you just enough during rehersal so that you can learn your capabilities. In his lessons you work together (everyones input matters). I have really enjoyed working with Milton and I will continue to do so.
My daughter is that Type A personality and doesn't believe in doing even her passion unless she has all the knowledge she can acquire in order for her to be comfortable. She self sought out a music teacher that could give her this knowledge. She found the Take Lessons website and then found Milton. She relentlessly inquired for me to please sign her up for singing lessons with him. I was so happy that she did the research herself that our journey began with Milton. Instantly they had a connection and she has grown tremendously vocally in the short amount of time she has been taking lessons with him. She has learned techniques that have expanded her range far beyond what she thought she was capable of acheiving. He is funny, makes her laugh, encourages her not to be afraid and knows just what she needs to push her a little further. He always inquires how she feels about what they are working on and also whether or not there is anything else she would like to focus on as well. They plan together which makes the lessons exactly what she needs. He ignites her passion fro music over and over and over again.
Thanks Milton, You are APPRECIATED!
Milton J. was on time and a complete professional.
For someone reentering the field of Acting and Musical Theater, Milton J was a perfect choice. He has range in his skill set to address any kind of Music and Theater genres.
I was so impressed, once we really had started on the lesson of what he has in his lesson. Quite a lot to do, that is deep behind the scenes and pre-performance set-up for the student to preset for a chararacter to come out of us. This, I remember from my Professional Acting for Television and Film days was what is called Actors Homework...in LA you are 2 scenes in before my former LA Teacher began to explain the pre-set tech that Milton J came with, right from the start.
