I have played the guitar and bass professionally for almost 50 years; performing, recording and writing with many well-known artists such as, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Pat Simmons (Doobie Brothers), Larry Carlton, Bill Champlin and others. I started teaching 28 years ago and developed a method of learning how to play that's fun and really works. I have been teaching in the Santa Cruz area for over 20 years now. Music is my life and I love sharing what I've learned with creative people of all ages in this area. I believe we are all musicians. We just have to find our instrument.
*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson is designed for the individual, depending on skill level, goals and learning abilities. The student is taught the songs he or she wants to learn. Emphasis is placed on how to practice. Through correct practice techniques the student sees results, wants to practice more and improves quickly. Progress is checked and all questions are answered. Video/audio recording of the lesson is recommended so the student may review at home.

People I know named Mike or Michael are generally some of the best people I know.
Mike is no exception to this. I have been taking lessons from him for bass off and on since 2007.
before 2007 I had never touched a bass and thanks to good guidance from mike as well as my own personal practice I can play in a Rock And Roll band and perform live.
Mike has shown me music theory, multiple techniques for bass, song structure, practice skills, as well as "artistic" advice.
I will continue taking lessons from mike as long as I am able because I feel that he is a limitless resource for a musician like myself.
also he is patient.
Mike is special
I tune my guitar in an open-c tuning (c-g-c-g-c-e). What are the odds I would find a guy says "I'll teach you in any tuning you want," retunes his guitar, and then starts ripping like it's the only tuning he's ever payed in. Teaching style is good. He really does want to share his wealth of music knowledge.
