I have a BA in music from Manhattanville College and a wide variety of performance experience ranging from off-broadway musicals to orchestral and chamber music to improvising and creating music for fashion shows and to playing and recording in progressive rock, indie and metal bands. My musical studies have covered classical, blues, jazz, rock, metal, traditional folk, musical theatre, and film music. Additionally, I have experience as a songwriter and composer and am currently recording my first solo album of original music on the cello. As a teacher, I draw from all of the great music I've studied and all of the great musicians and instructors I've had the privilege to observe. I combine "outside-the-box" thinking with a focus on practicality and usefulness. I am an active performer, and constantly learning and improving myself, while finding new ways to share with my students. *** Lesson Details *** As a teacher, I work to give all my students a fundamental, healthy technique that will allow them to play the music they love. I also incorporate theory, history and ear training into our lessons, and teach my students to express themselves through improvisation. Additionally, I focus on how to practice well and on making technique fun, enjoyable and helpful, rather than a dreaded nightmare. My aim is to connect mind and body & to give students an awareness of themselves while helping them develop a love of music and life. My goal as a teacher is to give all of my students the tools they need to make the music they love. I believe in all of my students and consider it my privilege to be able to share my musical journey with them. *** Studio Equipment *** Cello, Guitars, 88 key weighted Keyboard, Amplifiers, Logic/Pro Tools, Microphones, etc. *** Travel Equipment *** Students should have their own instrument, rock stop (if on cello), music stand & required books. I can provide these at the cost of the item if necessary. *** Specialties *** Cello - Classical, Improvisational Rock/Metal & Folk Piano - Classical, Improvisation. Guitar - Rock/Metal, Improvisation.
