I have had an exciting time learning the trumpet! Growing up I always enjoyed music and especially playing the trumpet, but I was always a mediocre and unreliable player. In between my junior and senior years of high school I went through the difficulty of an embouchure change. Though I struggled for several weeks, I kept at it and came through that summer on the other side a much better player. My sound, breathing, technique, and all-around playing improved dramatically. That embouchure change helped me win some national competitions my senior year of high school and allowed me the privilege of playing some professional things during my college years and beyond. Since that time I have attempted to be a mentor and teacher to other struggling and successful trumpet players. I understand the difficulties of going through the embouchure change and sympathize with the frustrations it often causes. Many young players have to get braces, and through 25 years of teaching have discovered some things that I believe can be helpful for those going through this difficult experience. I still enjoy playing when I can, but don't often get to because of my job as an assistant pastor. However, I have found time to play on numerous recordings and have a new trumpet recording coming out here in the next few months.
