Lyric diction by a linguist and language learner
I have a Bachelor's in Music Education and Vocal Performance and 7+ years teaching lyric diction. I have given seminars and written IPA transcriptions for choirs singing in: Ecclesiastical Latin, Middle English, French, Czech, and Slovak. I have given private lyric diction tutoring for individual singers in: English (both General American and Received Pronunciation), Italian, French, German, Russian, Czech, Slovak, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, Old Spanish, German Latin, Tagalog, and several others Always feel free to ask me about other languages. Early music was my forte, so I have great resources for singing European languages in very specific time periods. And I love to learn the orthography and phonology of other languages so you don't have to.
About Miguel B.

What do I tutor? Phonetics. It's what I have the most experience in and passion for. I have taught voice lessons, accent reduction, and done phonetic transcriptions and seminars for opera singers and choirs in languages such as Czech, Old Spanish, Russian, German Latin, Middle English, and Brazilian Portuguese. As part of my grad school's recruiting team I've also done on-site phonetic transcriptions of languages I had no previous exposure to like Nataqgu, Ngambay, and Annang in front of crowds to show what linguistic field work looks like. Introductory linguistics. I currently have a 4.0GPA and have taken classes on phonetics, phonology, grammar, historical linguistics, lexicology, second language acquisition, foreign language education, acoustics, and anatomy and physiology of the voice. Accent reduction. I have worked on English with students who spoke Mandarin, Japanese, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Russian, and Turkish. I have knowledge of a few accents in English, but I am still working to be a certified dialect coach. Language learning. My bachelors was in Spanish education. I was a certified Spanish and ESL teacher. I taught Spanish, French, phonetics and language learning, Dual Language (Spanish) social studies, and ESL social studies. Additionally, I have tutored language-learning methods for learners of Spanish, English, Korean, Turkish, French, and German. I, myself, have studied Spanish most extensively, French (B2), Swedish (B2), Brazilian Portuguese, Modern Hebrew (Dalet-level), Uyghur, Mandarin (HSK4), and Turkish. I have not tested Portuguese, Uyghur, nor Turkish. How am I as a tutor? I can be theatrical and silly, but I am also discerning and sensitive to what makes you most comfortable. I like to encourage and can be flexible about my plans if needed. Don't hesitate to let me know how I can adjust to be the best tutor I can be for you. Feel free to reach out and ask me questions. I'm here to grow as a tutor.
