I’m a professional singer with a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in vocal performance. I have extensive experience with both musical theatre and Opera but will teach any genre. I was a vocal TA to over 30 students at the University of Illinois and have developed an understanding of how to develop a student’s personal style. I also taught privately in Jacksonville where I received a minor in education. My course credits include italian, German, and French diction, pedagogy, vocal literature, musical theatre history, and opera history and I’ve worked with singers such as Nathan Gunn, Michelle DeYoung, Susan Graham, and Jerold Siena in order to develop my unique perspective and Style as a singer and educator.

About Michaela W.

I believe that anyone can learn to sing if they apply the principles of classical technique and practice good breath support/healthy tone production. I also believe it’s very important to apply the principles of characterization to any genre. Understanding and interpreting the lyrics/text is essential to effective performance.

I have sung roles such as “The Fox” in Janacek’s “Cunning Little Vixen,” “Orfeo” in Gluck’s “Orfeo ed Euridice,” “Logainne Schwartzandgrubenierre” in “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and “Sandra” in “All Shook Up.”

I also have experience working with children. I was a summer camp counselor for preschoolers for 3 years. I love working with children and have the skill set necessary to cater to their needs.

I’m excited to get started working with you!

Michaela is such a great teacher. She really cares about the progress of her students and makes sure the student is learning in each lesson. Very easy to work with. Michaela is an exceptional teacher because I can see a lot of improvement with my voice and find it much easier to sing Opera than before. She helped me remove the strain and expanded my range.
Michaela demonstrates exercises very well and helps you understand how singing works from different aspects - how it mechanically works and how you feel different notes and vowels. I could feel improvement very early in my lessons. Michaela can definitely help you learn how to broaden your range and have a rich sound while maintaining healthy voice/vocal cords.

She made an effort to focus on songs and techniques that I wanted to work on. When I didn't understand a concept she explained it in a different way and truly helped expand my knowledge in both the classical and musical theater styles. Michaela is a wonderful teacher!

Phi Kappa Phi
Aug 2017
In 1897 at the University of Maine, ten senior students, two faculty members, and the school president created an honor society that was different from the few others then in existence-one that recognized and honored excellence in all academic disciplines. Under the leadership of undergraduate student Marcus L. Urann, the group formed the Lambda Sigma Eta Society, which was later renamed Phi Kappa Phi from the initial letters of the Greek words forming its adopted motto: Philosophìa Krateìto Photôn, "Let the love of learning rule humanity." Phi Kappa Phi's mission is "To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others."

Omicron Delta Kappa was founded on Dec. 3, 1914 on the campus of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. The Society was founded by a group of 15 students and faculty who believed that leadership at the collegiate level should be recognized and encouraged across all phases of campus life. This general principle—that scholarship alone couldn’t predict success, and that other intrinsic qualities had value too—became known as the OΔK Idea.
