I teach what the student is most interested in. I can work in multiple styles.. The student will pick a song that they love to work on. My lessons encourage an ear (not just an eye). Focused on hand eye coordination exercise.

About Michael S.

Music has always been my biggest passion, and drums my biggest passion within music.

I am a fully self-taught drummer, but don't mistake that for a lack of belief in having a great teacher by your side. I realize as I reflect on my fifteen years of drum playing that having a patient but hard-working teacher like myself by my side could have made a huge difference.

Getting started and building the discipline necessary to master the drums is the hardest part, but also the most important. I spent a lot of time in the beginning figuring out a good routine and making sure that I was progressing from beginner to intermediate to expert; I can help you with as much instruction as necessary to implement these routines into your life.

I go to a lot of shows and listen to a huge variety of music. Experimenting in realms from jazz to rock to anything else has helped me build a talent that I can build in you- the ability to not only read music, but to be able to hear music and understand how to translate that to letting.

I love the music and the feelings it brings; that will be quickly obvious as we spend time on your drumcraft. Disney has published some of the best music ever written at evoking those feelings, in my opinion. The point is that our lessons are not just technical in nature but also in the art of true music appreciation. The student that thrives with me is the student looking to broaden his or her musical horizons as part of the lessons.

My own musical education is ongoing. If I go to a show, I always talk to the drummer afterward to learn more about his or her technique and routine. As you show me the things you love about music, I will learn from you as well; true musicianship is always more than a one-sided thing.

I truly look forward to talking to you more about working towards a great drums skillset!
