Thank you for considering me as a music teacher! I work with all ages, and design lesson plans based upon the student's proficiency and age. Drawing materials from standard teaching methods such as Leopard Mozart, Dalcroze Eurythmics (especially useful for younger students), and the Suziki Method, I develop a curriculum for each individual student. I work to build strong foundations in all aspects of music making, and extramusical character traits like focus, discipline, and fun! I like to involve parents of younger students as well to help with practice planning, to get to know each family and student's needs, and to illuminate the different aspects of learning I am working on, e.g. hand eye coordination, kinesthetic awareness, and the various and multiple techniques involved in string playing. I have experience teaching in both private and group settings, from ages four to adult. I'm a classically trained violist and violinist currently completing my Master's of Music degree at Roosevelt University, Chicago Conservatory of Performing Arts. I have been playing for 16 years (currently 22) and did my Bachelor's of Music at Cleveland Institute of Music. I have played in three professional orchestras in Florida and Ohio, and have traveled around to Europe and Asia performing with orchestras. My primary teachers have been Michael Klotz, Mark Jackobs, and currently Igor Fedotov. I have worked with musicians from the Cleveland Quartet, Cavani Quartet, Cleveland Orchestra, Vienna Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and Chicago Symphony. Music is my passion and profession, and I believe music is an important role in development of any age child. Thank you for considering lessons with me, Michael S.

Michael is such a great instructor! I was worried about re-starting violin lessons as an adult but after speaking with him those worries went out the window. He is very kind, patient, and gives very helpful and constructive feedback during lessons. He seems to tailor lessons and music style to each student and gives lots of great exercises and homework/practice! He's also very on top of scheduling and understanding when things come up (like an injured wrist). Very enthusiastic and passionate about music - I would highly recommend him as an instructor for any age!

Great instructor! Michael has a great attitude and is clearly very talented. He is willing to adjust the curriculum in order to accommodate my specific needs/ weaknesses. Balances core exercises, scales (including note reading homework), and music playing. We've already started playing songs together which really helps me hear the notes better!
