Take lessons from a Ph.D in music theory! If you have a passion for really understanding the heart of how music works, these lessons are for you. I have taught music theory for years, and I have given lectures on musical analysis at numerous international conventions. We can start at any level with these lessons, so if you are a high school student looking for a tutor for your music theory course, or a graduate student preparing for an entrance exam, I can help you succeed.
About Lance R.

Dr. Lance R. is a Professor of Music offering private lessons online and in the Dallas area. He received his B.M. and M.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of South Florida, and a Ph. D in Music Theory, with a related field in Vocal Pedagogy from the University of North Texas. His greatest expertise are as a vocal coach for all styles, and in training general musicianship skills. He also offers lessons and coaching for saxophone, piano, songwriting, and voice therapy. Lance offers a comfortable learning environment for students of all levels, from those who have never sung, picked up a saxophone, or touched a piano in their lives, to active performers looking to reach that next level. *** Specialties *** Musicianship Skills and Ear-Training Lance has years of experience teaching students how to become fluent music readers and to easily navigate difficult musical passages. Vocal Technique Development Lance has specialized training to detect and correct anything that may be getting in the way of a healthy, musical singing sound. Disclaimers: Reschedule requests made within 24hrs may be allowed, subject to availability. Same-day cancellations and no-call/no-shows will result in being charged for the scheduled lesson. In-Person Lessons: There are three pets (two dogs, one cat) at my in-home studio. The dogs bark at first, but are secured in the opposite side of the house for the duration of all lessons. The cat sometimes roams, but keeps to himself.

My son is 6 and has been taking piano lessons from Lance. Lance is extremely patient in dealing with my son's small attention span. My son has learned so much such as reading sheet music and training his ear. He looks forward to lessons every week.

Lance is helping my teenage son prepare for a role in a musical this fall. He has been a great fit--fun and with a great sense of humor and at the same time very skilled at vocal techniques and working the music to create a better performance. Lance offers practical tips and has a flexibility to his teaching that makes him very responsive to questions.

Quite a lot of improvement so far compared to when I started and noticed by people close to me, even though I would guess it takes still more time and efforts to achieve a reasonable level. So a good reason to keep on with Lance. He is patient and insightful in his instructions, and rather fun too. Helping me to improve! I would like to continue improving.

Aug 2008
It’s music in a very pure form created with nothing but human voices coming together to create a rich and satisfying texture that is pleasing to the ears and invigorating to the soul. Barbershop allows you to find your voice and be a part of creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
