I've been playing drums and percussion around the world for over fifteen years, mostly for fun but with a few professional gigs thrown in there as well. Most recently, I have just ended a stint with my heavy metal band Erlang Kovata. Our album 'Shattered' has been nominated for best metal/hardcore album at the independent music awards. Prior to that, I played with a number of different groups and organizations: a couple of student groups at the University of Chicago, the Middlebury College Orchestra, the Champlain Philharmonic, Bella Voce Women's Chorus, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, and more. I have given occasional drum lessons through the years, but my teaching experience comes mostly through my time as an English Teacher in South Korea, and as an Academic Tutor for the past several years. My teaching focuses for drums will be rock and metal.

I have also excelled academically, with my academic career culminating in an Economics B.A., Physics Minor with General Honors from the University of Chicago.

I'm a working professional and decided to take drum lessons for fun. I meet with Mike about once a week for half an hour. I always have a great time and it's a wonderful way to take a break from my busy workday and learn a new skill. I appreciate that we focus on music that I would otherwise listen to. It keeps the lessons entertaining and since we practice songs I am already familiar with I am able to retain what I have learned more easily.

Mike is an absolute professional. I had the pleasure of working and learning from him over a two year period. His approach to music is creative, fun and educational. He creates an atmosphere of ease, where ideas can roam freely. His skill lies in understanding and instructing academic music theory in an easy and exciting way. With Mike, you not only get a perfect theory base but you will be able to explore your full potential to become an amazing, confident drummer. Trust me, he has helped me a lot in the way I see music today. Thanks Mike.

We've had the pleasure of working with Michael in the recording studio and we loved his professionalism. The only thing that tops his reliability and friendly nature is his musical ability. We love hearing from Michael about all the great music he is making and about the students he is sharing his amazing talent with.
