Having spent years moving forward in the music industry with Breakfast in Fur and being hired for everything from Punk to Gospel, I see no boundaries in music. Through my lessons, all of my students have gained proficiency, while having FUN learning about music. My lessons are structured to give my students a foundation of Music Theory through teaching the student what he/she wants to learn. I largely work from my own materials, but also teach using Hal Leonard and Mel Bay's Guitar books.

Since earning his Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Guitar Performance from SUNY New Paltz, Michael Hollis has been teaching both privately and in studios throughout the Hudson Valley. Michael is the founder of the Hudson Valley Music Collective of private instructors that is set to debut later this year, bringing together a wonderful mix of musicians. What separates Michael from all of the other guitar instructors? Its his willingness to teach any genre or skill level and his myriad of performing experiences that help add a "real life" factor to his approach. 
Music is all about FUN! If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong! Its for this reason that Michael shapes each individuals lessons to best meet their needs and desires.

I took mandolin lessons from Michael. He also taught me a lot of music theory and also how to improvise.  I really enjoyed my lessons, because I was able to tell Michael what I was interested in learning, and that was what we focused on. He is himself a very talented musician and his teaching style is easy to understand.  As an adult student, all of these aspects of teaching are very important.

Michael Hollis is anot extreemly talented musician.  He is proficient in many styles and extreemly knowledgeable  about his instrument and music in general.  His outgoing personality and dedication to his work make him a great music teacher.  Would recommend him to anyone who beginnersaid as well as more experienced players wishing to further their skills
