Teacher of 13 years, I've taught over 1000 students at this point. My first job was in a music store,  I quickly gravitated towards teaching, and I've been doing it ever since. Whether you want to reproduce cherished songs, understand music and the guitar on a deeper level, or use the instrument as a way to explore who "you" are, I believe I can help you. 

While I'm capable of teaching all levels and most styles, I have the most experience in the various forms of rock and metal. I believe that I am a very adaptable teacher, being that I am comfortable taking a gentler "guiding" approach with a student who wants the freedom to take each lesson a different direction, or taking a more rigid curriculum-grounded approach for a student who enjoys structure and continuity.

In any case, I'd say my greatest virtue as a teacher is the understanding that the study of music is a highly individual endeavor. As an art form, it leverages so many aspects of our personality and identity as human beings that to pursue it is, in essence, an exercise in self-awareness. Because of this, I feel it's important, as a teacher, to be able to adapt one's lessons to the needs of each student.

I've been teaching students of varying levels and interests for 13 years. Prior to 2020, I was teaching in reputable brick-and-mortar establishments.

Great patience and lots of knowledge

I took in-person lessons for 1.5+ years. Michael adapts his teaching style to the student’s needs and strengths and is highly encouraging. He is very attentive and is sharply focused during each lesson, ensuring that his student stays on track and is making progress with the material.  He is also friendly and understanding so you will definitely feel at ease. At the end of every lesson, I knew exactly what to work on and improve for the following lesson, and I found that I was building my confidence as a guitar player. By having an open-minded approach, Michael can well work well with students who have different goals, whether it’s learning existing songs or improvisation, composing new music, playing in a band as he has taught musical groups, or professionally, as he has toured and played live shows himself. Perhaps, the student is also just picking up the instrument for the first time and not sure where they will end up - like me! Michael is inspiring both as a player and as a composer. I would highly recommend Michael as a music teacher - you will enjoy the musical journey!
