Teaching since:
2010

I have been teaching trombone privately for 7 years. I love teaching, especially building confidence and a sense of pride in the skills which my students attain. I work towards also being able to impart the true end goal, a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
I am living in Olympia, studying at The Evergreen State College during the school months and in Seattle over summer and over breaks. Feel free to request a lesson if you're unsure of my availability. I'm happy to clarify!
I perform in any place and setting I can get my hands on. In small combos, in medium ensembles and in big bands, as a back-up for vocalists and miscellaneous. I love engaging an audience, a skill I have used also performing and hosting with an improv troupe for more than 3 years.

Michael is an excellent teacher as he communicates well with his students and has such a welcoming personality that encourages students to do their best. He gives students appropriate music that will challenge them at their current playing ability along with making it fun to learn and move on to the next level. He would be an excellent choice for a private teacher for trombone.

My son has been taking lessons with Michael for over a year now. Michael is a recent graduate of the Garfield High School extraordinary jazz program and has an absolute gift for teaching and motivating young trombonists. Michael has a contagious passion for the trombone that shapes his lessons. In my son's words, "he's just overall awesome!" Not only has my son greatly improved in technical aspects of the instrument, he has developed a huge appreciation and interest in jazz and music in general. Michael has my highest possible recommendation!
