- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
French is my native language and whether you're a beginner or experienced French speaker, I would be happy to:
1) Teach you French from scratch,
2) Enrich your vocabulary & conversational abilities, or
3) Polish your accent to make you sound like a real French person!
---------------Frequently Asked Questions---------------
1- Are you interested in teaching total beginners?
=> Of course! Actually, a lot of my students are beginners. It's fantastic to follow their progress and it's interesting to adapt the class a bit differently for each of them according to their preferences and abilities.
2- What type of lessons would you recommend?
=> Beginner: 45 min lessons (conversation is still minimal, the lessons will be mostly based on exercices).
=> Intermediate: 45 min or 60 min lessons (about 50% conversation, 50% exercices)
=> Advanced: 30 or 45 min (100% conversation).
=> Kids: 30 or 45 min, depending how young and how are their focus capabilities.
3- Is scheduling flexible? Do I have to pick a specific day/time and stick with it?
=> I'm very flexible and I perfectly understand that your schedule can vary from week to week (and I hope you'll understand mine can too sometimes). We can choose together a first time slot to begin and then play it by ear.

I'm a native French speaker, but I do understand the joy & challenges of approaching a new language, as I also learned English, Italian and Tunisian (dialect of Arabic).
I moved from France to the USA in 2011 and my main job is being a costume designer specialized in opera. Through my work, I occasionally translate documents or help opera singers with their pronunciation & understanding of French lyrics.
I've also been teaching French privately and I would like to share my love for this language and culture with more students. Takelessons has been an amazing tool for this so far!
I'm looking forward to meeting you online or in my neighborhood (Andersonville in Chicago).
Merci et à bientôt!
Great lessons, awesome teacher Will continue learning from Meriem!
Truly second to none!!!
I had a couple of sessions with Meriem during the transition between my French 1 and 2 classes. We went over rudimentary things that I didn't get in class and now everything makes so much sense. Good pronunciation is definitely the key and Meriem knows how to lead you there. I also really enjoyed the examples she gave based on songs lyrics. That's a great method!+ Read More

I took French lessons a few decades ago and since then I've been practicing from time to time. I can understand quite easily but when I have to talk, I'm not sure about the grammar I use. Meriem helped me reviewing some basic principles that I've forgotten and provided good examples that I think I will not forget this time.+ Read More
Meriem Bahri is a pleasure to work with. Her demeanor is delightful, fun and caring. As a teacher, she is articulate and her lesson plans are well constructed and paced appropriately. I surprised myself with how fast I was able to put sentences together under her guidance. I'd highly recommend her for French lessons!+ Read More
