Michigan Music Association was founded in 1967 as a non-profit, educational organization to perpetuate through high standards an annual competition for students in the state of Michigan. Its goals are to provide the public the opportunity to hear students in competition, to uphold a high standard in music education, provide a public outlet for the artistic talent of music students, and most importantly to help students gain the experience and confidence to develop their musical talents.
Since its founding in 1898, the NFMC has grown into one of the world’s largest music organizations with club and individual members of all ages. The NFMC is chartered by the Congress of the United States, and is the only music organization member of the United Nations. NFMC provides opportunities for musical study, performance and appreciation to more than 200,000 senior, student and junior members in 6,500 music-related clubs and organizations nationwide. Members are professional and amateur musicians, vocalists, composers, dancers, performing artists, arts and music educators, music students, generous music patrons and benefactors, and music lovers of all ages.
The mission of MTNA is to advance the value of music study and music making in society and to support the professionalism of music teachers. The mission is accomplished by members who teach with competence, act with integrity, volunteer services to MTNA programs, provide professional support for colleagues and communities, and comply with all laws and regulations that impact the music teaching profession. The mission calls for an ethical commitment to students, to colleagues, and to society.
