I have a B.A. in Music with an emphasis in piano. My performing experience includes musical theater direction (community, high school, and middle school), opera, and choral. I most recently worked as an Assistant Music Director for a local church before relocating to Texas. I feel my diverse background in performing/music directing has equipped me with the skills to be a creative piano teacher. As mentioned before, I strive to really get to know my students as people, then tailor their musical education with that knowledge in mind. I feel that music is a strong tool that helps to bring people together. In order to facilitate that, having a strong teacher-student bond is essential. I am also a firm believer that music should be accessible to all and every effort should be made to assist the student in achieving their goals-- whether that is playing for enjoyment only, or aspiring to participate in music festivals. Whatever the student's goals may be, proper technique and theory will still be taught in order to provide a firm musical foundation.

Our family can't say enough about Melissa! WONDERFUL! She is a gift to piano students. My son has taken lessons with her for almost a decade now, and has truly developed as a musician due to her teaching skills. She works with students (at their level) to develop their confidence and joy in music. Not only is she a top-rate teacher and musician, she is an absolute delight to work with! She blends music professionalism with care and flexibility for students, which is a rare blend. Melissa has our highest recommendation!

As a retired senior who likes music, I knew nothing at all about it, I was referred to Melissa when I suddenly wanted to know more. Much to my surprise, after 1 and 1/2 years I'm actually playing the piano...and it sounds pretty good. I highly recommend Melissa. She's patient, kind, affirming, and knows just when to push me to try more without undermining my self confidence. And she makes it fun!

Melissa is a wonderful tutor! I am an older student and really appreciate her skill and patience in helping me as I relearn how to play the piano. I highly recommend Melissa as a piano teacher/tutor to young and old alike!
