I've been playing piano since I was a young child and have been teaching music for over 11 years. While my main specialty is teaching string instruments, I also enjoy playing and teaching piano. No matter what your age, you can learn to play the piano! I typically teach using the Alfred Piano Series, but we can select the best method based on your personal learning goals.

About Melissa M.

I am a professional string teacher and violin performer. Having graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Bob Jones University and a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University, I have taught for 10 years as an orchestra director in the New York public school system. I also perform with several local orchestras including Penfield Symphony Orchestra.

I have a lot of experience teaching students at all levels so whether you are a beginning, intermediate, or advanced player, I will be able to help you grow as a musician. Each lesson is tailored to your learning style as well as to your interests. Having proper technique is the foundation of good playing so this will be addressed from your very first lesson. Let me know what your goals are as a musician and we will work together to help you meet your goals!

Melissa is a wonderful music teacher! She teaches our three kids ages 5, 8 and 13 on three different instruments in our home. She is very patient and flexible. SO happy to have her!

My son Jack has been taking viola lessons with Melissa for the past 4 years. We are so pleased with his progress and enthusiasm. Melissa makes it productive and fun at the same time. She gives him the enrichment he needs to go above what he learns in his school music program.
