I've been an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter for over 20 years. This profession has allowed me to experience a wide variety of settings and clients! I've worked in K-12, post secondary classrooms and many different freelance environments (both professional and leisure). I will start with a basic vocabulary of signs and an understanding of grammatical structure. If you are not into learning grammar we can fast forward to conversational ASL! So, let's get started!

Hello! My name is Melissa, and I would love to have the opportunity to teach American Sign Language to you! I've been a licensed interpreter for over 20 years in a wide variety of settings, both professional and leisure. I'm currently working with a student in a local grade school. I love teaching, and I'm comfortable with all ages. 

We will begin with a basic understanding of grammatical structure and building up a solid vocabulary of signs. If you'd prefer to keep it even simpler we can focus only on basic conversational sign language. Maybe you would just like to learn the signs to a favorite song for a performance. We can do that too! You can set the pace and focus of your learning. So, let's get started!

Highly recommended! Melissa is gifted not only in ASL, but also in teaching. I only knew a few signs and the alphabet and left her course able to communicate many things with others using ASL. Very patient and excited to teach are both ways to describe Melissa.
