I take great joy in bringing expression to the surface that the student didn't even know they had within them! Creating art is mainly about confidence, and I build that with each person, one on one. As they gain confidence, the techniques needed to create meaningful and engaging art come more easily. I have taught in a variety of settings, including my own art gallery and studio in Texas. I have taught children as young as three, and I helped a lady ninety years young pursue the joy of painting for the first time- she continued to progress until her passing at 94. I have worked with Alzheimer's patients at a care facility in La Jolla- art is so therapeutic and really engages people in a way that many other pursuits don't. While learning technique and practicing it is important, the process of painting or drawing is also very much about being in the moment, and enjoying that process! In a lesson, I introduce my students to a whole world of art styles and media, nurturing the creative process with lots of positive reinforcement along the way!
