Malena Cadiz has been writing and recording for nearly a decade. She's released three studio albums and toured the US and Europe. Her work has been lauded by NPR, Vogue, Stereogum and American Songwriter. She was a finalist for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest 2020. She started her own teaching practice, Coyote Canyon Music five years ago and fell in love with sharing the process of constructing songs with others. She offers monthly salons and one on one instruction. STUDYING SONGWRITING WITH MALENA: “Your artistry is directly connected to your vulnerability” - David Whyte Songwriting is a powerful tool of self expression. It’s a means of sharing, constellating and finding beauty in one’s own story. My workshops are focused on finding one’s own unique songwriting through the practice and craft of combining poetry and music. Writers at all stages of their process are welcome. By diving deeply into our own stories we’ll surface with songs that are truly unique to each writer, uncovering the universal in the personal. In each session we will: - Share completed songs and songs in progress and receive feedback - Work on honing specificity, creating powerful visuals, and storytelling by showing, not telling - Experiment with themes (i.e. Object, Character, Story songs) - Work on melody, chord structure and form - Strive to build community, creating the opportunity for support, accountability and ongoing collaborations

Melaena was an incredible teacher for my daughter's introduction to, and learning of guitar. She brought excitement, inspiration, magic and knowledge to each lesson and my daughter learned easily and with so much joy! I couldn't recommend a better instructor - Meleana is a fun, skilled and natural music teacher. Thank you so much for everything Melaena!

Melaena was great with my 7 year old. Made her feel comfortable and able to open up with ideas and suggestions. She mediated the class well and allowed for all participants’ voices to be heard. Had an amazing end result each class. True treasures we’ll cherish forever. Thanks for everything Melaena!
