    About Megan L.

I am a dancer, educator, and choreographer from the Chicagoland area. I have received a Bachelors of Art in Dance with a focus on pedagogy from Columbia College Chicago and have been teaching in all types of settings since 2014. I have taught for companies such as Joel Hall Dancers & Center, Dance to Evolve, and Music House to name a few. With these companies, I have worked in both studio settings as well as in school and after-school programs. I have worked in Chicago Public Schools such as Drummond Montessori, Jackie Robinson Elementary, & Sabin Dual Language Elementary. Additionally, I have volunteered teaching dance in recreational centers such as the Bryant Center in Racine, WI. I was grateful to have the experience teaching fellow peers for a pedagogy practicum at Columbia College Chicago. I teach ages 2 and up styles such as Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, and General/Creative Movement. I believe that it is never too late to start dancing. I have worked with a 92-year-old dancer who was learning tap who even found a performance opportunity. I work with all kinds of bodies to make sure that dance is achievable and safe for all. My instruction method is derived from a biomechanical approach to technique and movement that allows for accommodations and safe execution for all bodies and structural limitations. A few of my goals as an instructor are to: 1. Teach dance technique in a safe and adaptable manner. 2. Create a safe and welcoming environment for people to pursue their passion for dance. 3. Promote an understanding of how the body moves and its capabilities in relation to dance. Additional backing of my instruction comes from research done in the fields of Anatomy, Kinesiology, the biomechanics of dance, and personal experience. Some main sources used in this practice are driven by works by Erik Franklin, Margaret Wilson, and journals such as JDMS, and others on IADMS. If you are unsure or have any questions, feel free to ask me any questions! My ultimate goal is to help you learn and enjoy movement and dancing!
