ACRYLIC PAINTING LESSONS
Abstract Painting uses a visual language of form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Abstract art, non figurative art, nonobjective art, and nonrepresentational art are loosely related terms. They are similar, but perhaps not of identical meaning.
A Complete List of Painting Supplies that every Acrylic Painter needs
1. Acrylic Paints. Ex: Golden Classic Theory Color, a-z Acrylics, Liquitex [brands]
2. Proper Painting Brushes [I‘d suggest six total in a range of sizes: two size 2 brushes, two size 6 brushes, and two size 12 brushes. One of each pair should be a flat brush (with a squared-off brush tip) and the other should be a filbert brush (with a slightly rounded tip).
4. A charcoal pencil
5. A “palette”
6. Comfortable, messy clothes
7. A painter’s easel - if any
8. Canvas (or other painting surface)

30 yrs experience, International, Abstract, Contemporary artist based in San Diego CA. Available for eager students of all experience levels. "I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of abstract expressionistic-freestyle techniques”.
I specialize in high quality acrylic-oil-metallic-chalk paints and heavy duty mediums. I typically use medium size to large flat brushes, metal mixing-knives, varnish, resin, silicone, floetrol.
I like to practice my choice of colors on an old canvas or simply on watercolor paper prior being used on a canvas or a wood panel.
My favorite tools to use as color reference are:
Pantone palettes, HGTV, Dwell, House & Homes Magazines, House Paint Color palettes from Home Depot and imagery found online.

I love Mayra. She taught me a lot more than I thought in just one class. I have a painting that I will hang on my wall. Never thought one class would do that. She has great personality and great skills.
Mayra was very helpful. She had a challenge with us because we we're weren't sure exactly what we wanted to learn. Mayra worked with us and demonstrated some new techniques and ideas based on where we already were as (very amateur) artists. She was helpful, very encouraging, and easy to work with. Thank you!Show More
