- I am classically trained in piano and music theory (attended college for both from the age of 15) and have a strong emphasis on music theory and good technique in my lessons, but I also understand the importance of ear training. I practice with and encourage each student in developing relative pitch, which is the ability to tell the distance between two notes, and is the foundation of learning to play by ear. - I have a knack for taking a student who has been in lessons for months or years without significant progress or improvement, and helping them 'get unstuck' and start improving by leaps and bounds. (Every student's level and situation is different, but I've seen this happen more often than not in my studio.) - I believe homeschooling is what gave me my flexibility in being able to determine each student's unique learning style, and teach to them specifically so that they understand best, rather than just putting each one through their paces in the same way no matter what. - My students consistently display the best technique in every group recital in which I've participated.
