Beginner students can expect a focus on finger strength, basic scale patterns and chords, basic music literacy skills, and work on strumming patterns, basic right and left hand technique, some music reading, 
Intermediate student will start working on improvised solos, finger independence in the right hand, sight reading music, music theory skills, musicianship, and aural skills (picking things out by ear)
Advanced can work on more difficult improvised music, and extended techniques

Maxwell is a guitarist and composer, focusing on jazz, new music, and contemporary improvised music, based in Arlington VA. He is a founding director of Beat on the Bard Theatre Company, the Glass Flower new music ensemble, Improvisational Research Workshops, and is a member of the Shenandoah New Music Collective, as well as being a freelance composer and guitarist, taking work and commissions throughout the region
