Most recently, I was sponsored by Mr. Josef Frohlich of the Fresh Leaf Charitable Foundation as one of eight pianists worldwide to attend the prestigious Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland, summer of 2018. I was the sole American and Juilliard pianist to receive the honor, and was featured in spotlight performances broadcasted on major platforms like MediciTV, Idagio Streaming, and DakApp Studios.
Since 2019, I've been a core member of the Artemisia Foundation in New York, the result of a joint effort between the Yale School of Music and The Juilliard School. I serve as a Gifted Young Mentor offering private and master classes to the Artemisia Akademie's students at venues within the Juilliard School (Paul Hall, Morse Hall) and Yale University (Sprague Hall, Woolsey Hall), as a Director of Artemisia's 21st Century, Jazz, and Performance Program, and as a Yale Fellow that handles public relations, media and social media tasks for the Foundation. I hope to further my experience as a leader in musical society in New York, beyond the performance realm.
I am a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City where I earned a BM in Piano Performance, and studied with the Susan W. Rose Chair of Piano Department, Dr. Yoheved Kaplinsky and legendary concert pianist, Hung-Kuan Chen; my history with the institution dates back to Juilliard Pre-College, where I graduated as a Juilliard Merit Scholarship recipient. In addition to my formal musical education in classical piano, I'm also a graduate of the Lakeside School in Seattle, a highly selective, college preparatory institute offering a rigorous academic program; notable alumni include Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the McCaw brothers. I am well-versed and fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
I am well accustomed to working with young children, adolescents and teenagers along with the elderly in retirement homes, and hope to nurture and instill in each of my students a genuine, individualized passion for music, along with imparting to each student all the knowledge I've attained in 19 years of musical experience off and on stage, playing at the highest caliber of competition in the world's most acclaimed venues and studying with some of the world's most sought after pedagogues. Furthermore, my goal is to accelerate the learning curve and to bestow all I know as quickly as possible, not wasting time on useless irrelevancies. I've taught many years privately in the greater Seattle area, as a private teacher at the Aspen Music Festival and as a private teacher serving the NYC area since 2015. My students have won regional and international competitions for young people, have performed at prestigious venues such as Benaroya Hall, Alice Tully @ Lincoln Center, the Kauffman Center, Foundation LV in Paris, and Carnegie Hall, and have been admitted to Pre-College institutions at Juilliard and Manhattan School of Music.

As a parent, I worried that my child wouldn’t receive a truly effective musical education that was tailored to suit his needs and goals. After studying with Max for two years, my twelve year old son has just started his first semester at the Mannes’ School of Music Pre-College Program this Fall. I cannot thank Max enough for his efforts. Before starting lessons with Max, my son had zero interest in piano despite his potential. Max made piano fun, interesting, and worthy of my son’s time. He became an entirely different person! He has studied with the world’s foremost concert pianists and teachers, and he always used his illustrious network to help my son with career opportunities. Though my son now studies in a formal setting, I’m grateful to Max for his help in securing my son’s future. If you are a parent who is unsure of who to entrust your child’s musical development to, please sign up for Max’s lessons. He is the real deal!

Max has been very helpful so far in teaching me the fundamentals of what makes a proficient piano player, from the technical aspects to the mentality one should have. Would Recommend.

Max is a young man with a mature spirit far beyond his years. My wife and I heard him in concert where he gave a beautiful recital of Liszt and Beethoven Sonatas in our hometown of Berlin. I recently visited New York for a business trip, and took the opportunity to speak to this young man who captured my ears with his nearly philosophical performance. After a brief two hour lesson, it was clear to me that the artist had clear vision of a realm that most would disregard as imaginary. I look forward to hearing him again in Europe, and encourage those in New York to take advantage of his services. He will be a major influence on the future of classical music.
