Come learn a first, second, or even third instrument! In addition to voice, Max specializes in multi-instrumentalism and fluency between genres. Many of Max's students learn at least two instruments, and for very good reason! Learning multiple instruments (and styles/genres) increases one's musical ability and understanding of the big picture in ways that a single focus simply can't. It's comparable to learning multiple languages. There's also time and a place to buckle down on technique and to focus on one thing exclusively, and Max is mindful of this as well. In his lessons, he creates new exercises to address each student's specific needs and keeps the focus narrow enough to avoid a distracting information overload. Most importantly, Max teaches through questions, in the spirit of "teach a man to fish...." This allows students to gain a degree of self sufficiency and an appetite for discovery. Lessons are fun, personal, efficient (and at times, just inefficient enough to feel comfy), and relaxed. Max's teaching space features classic instruments and amps, including a vintage Fender Rhodes, and a full featured recording studio. It's a perfect environment for learning and creativity, and it's also a short walk to all of Hampden's best shops and restaurants. Outside of teaching, Max actively performs as a classical/early music singer, and does regular session work on vocals, bass, guitar, trumpet, and keys. He also composes for film, and runs a mobile recording business specializing in classical, acoustic, and jazz. His work has taken him both around the country and overseas.
