When you're twelve, life is filled with drama. Knitting was not. It has always been a meditative, nurturing retreat. There have been times in my life when I've knitted more, times when I've knitted less. But the lessons I learned from knitting have served me well over the years: patience, perseverance, and keeping it all in perspective.
I'd love to share this craft with someone else. Come, learn to knit and see what else you might learn along the way.
About Maureen G.
I have been knitting for more than 35 years, and was taught by a neighbor when I was 12 years old. I found it fascinating and rewarding to transform something disorganized (a ball of yarn) into something purposeful and beautiful. As I grew up, and my world expanded, I found the world of fiber was bigger than I ever imagined.
There are so many options for pursuing the craft of knitting -- whether one chooses simple natural fibers, high end fibers, or inexpensive yarn from the discount bin. Regardless of what you knit with, it always comes back home: knitters everywhere are united by the inner stillness of sitting with needles in hand, the yarn passing through the fingers, watching an item take shape from the knitter's own hands.
The act of creation on the small, humble scale, in meditative fashion is what keeps drawing me in, and I welcome you to be drawn in, too.
