    About Matt W.

Matt W. is an aspiring professional guitarist in the Seattle area who specializes in playing improvised, jazz, and rock music. Matt graduated in 2012 from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, WA, where he has played with many top ranked musicians including Julian Priester, Randy Halberstadt, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Wayne Horvitz, Jovino Santos Neto, and Chuck Deardorf. Matt has also studied under many great guitar teachers and mentors, such as Chris Spencer, Dave Peterson, and Bill Harkleroad, as well as studied composition under Tom Baker. Working in many diverse bands around Seattle, Matt has earned a reputation as a complex and eclectic player. In various groups, Matt has performed in many festivals and events around Seattle including the Wayward Music Series, the Fremont Oktoberfest, Seattle’s SPC events, and the EMP’s 2011 Sound Off! event. Matt has also been a private guitar teacher for four years, teaching students of all skill levels and ranging in age from 11 to 40. In 2011 Matt joined the FFPC music school as guitar instructor where he has helped many students grow as guitarists as well as lead small beginning jazz ensembles. As well as teaching and playing in ensembles, Matt has also played in many musical theatre productions such as Leader of the Pack and Children of Eden. In his spare time, Matt also enjoys composing his own brand of off-kilter jazz and rock music and hopes to soon release an album of his own music. *** Lesson Details *** I'm a generally laid back teacher but I ensure that you will be able to reach your goals in no time at all. Beginning students will walk away from their first lesson already knowing a few chords and scales, and in no time they will be rocking out to their favorite songs. For more advanced students I can tailor your lessons to what long term goals you have as a musician, whether it be technique, getting into music school, or general musicianship. *** Travel Equipment *** The student needs to have an instrument. I can provide everything else. *** Specialties *** I specialize in teaching rock, pop, blues, and jazz. I am also an active composer and have a great grasp of music theory.
