    About Matthew W.

My strong suits are teaching rhythm guitar, jazz chord chart comping, fingerpicking/fingerstyle/Travis, easy-to-intermediate classical technique, improvisation, composition/songwriting, music recording, music production, music theory, learning songs by ear, and music memorization. ...I can’t teach speed metal solos, sorry.  I wish I could! I taught Music Technology courses at American University as an Adjunct Professor for well over a decade; mainly teaching the industry-standard recording software Pro Tools.  *** Lesson Details *** If you know where you want to go I can get you from point A to point B efficiently. I'll get you where you want to go. I structure lessons based on a student's specific needs and ability. I am a laid-back fellow, and very patient, but if you need frequent encouragement and nagging I can do that too. *** Studio Equipment *** Electronic drumset, bass amp, bass, guitar amps, guitars (electric, nylon, steel-string, 12-string), ukuleles, keyboard, upright piano, etc. *** Travel Equipment *** Guitar, ukulele, bass, and amp. *** Student Equipment *** I am happy to help a new student pick out an instrument at a local music store, but I no longer provide instrument rentals. I recommend students purchase the following accessories before or soon after the first lesson: Capo: Schubb C1 Clip-on Tuner: Snark SN-1X Guitar Picks: Variety Pack (thin, medium, and heavy) Method Book: To be determined after the first or second lesson *** Specialties *** Guitar: beginners, rock, pop, oldies, beginning to intermediate jazz and beginning to intermediate classical, improvising and finger style guitar
