Hi, I am Matt Shewmaker. I am a band director in the Fort Smith, AR area. I am in my 6th year teaching band and love every minute of it. I have recently decided to return to teaching private lessons, and would love to help you with your auditions, festival music, or your AP music theory exams. Outside of the auditions, we continually work tone production, range, and confidence on any brass instrument. In college I had a small guitar studio as well. I am comfortable teaching at all levels, but my expertise is centered around student development at the middle school to high school level.
June 2012 - June 2015 I was the head band director of Waldron High School. We won several awards through our marching and concert band program. I also ran after school lessons in which many students made our region honor band.
June 2015 - Present
I am currently the head director at Trinity Junior High in Fort Smith. I run a 7-9 band program that includes both marching and concert band seasons. Our student involvement is quite high as our band program serves about 50% of our total student population.
I teach band instruments at a private Junior High school. I am a certified teacher in Arkansas, going through all required background checks to teach students in all schools. My bands have won numerous awards, and many of my students make all-region and go on to win scholarships at colleges.+ Read More
