- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate
Percussion is one of my specialties.
Beginning to Intermediate Percussion lessons and beats that are actually used in today's and yesteryear's "hit songs".
It's no secret, percussion is the backbone or "foundation" to
any hit song.
I break down percussion to its most basic rudiments so that
you will grow by leaps and bounds instead of just crawling
You have to walk before you can run so getting it right initially is very important to moving forward and getting you playing your favorite songs quickly and accurately..

Hi.. My name is Matt. I'm a very energetic, friendly, understanding & passionate music coach who has worked with students & clientele throughout the US. Possessing more than 25 years of music training & music industry experience, I've been able to take people's Playing to amazing levels.
In my musical travels I've networked or shared the stage with many famous NW music legends:
1.) Roger Fisher- Heart-2013 Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame Inductee
2.) Lynn Sorensen- Paul Rogers/Bad Co/KZOK's Spike & Impalers
3.) Donny Evola - Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche/Foghat
4.) Jeff Kathan- Paul Rogers/Bad Company/Montrose
5.) Doug Mcgrew- Geoff Tate/Former Queensryche Singer/Operation Mindcrime
6.) Update - For the last year I have been playing off and on with Rudy Parris from NBC TV's "The Voice". Season 3 - Team Blake. He is an incredible musician and I'm proud to call him and his manager my friends. His new album coming out is nothing short of amazing.
In fact everyone I've mentioned above are pro all the way and great guys as well. I"m honored to have played with them.
I challenge my students to view music more than just as a "skill", but also a tool to communicate effectively and to combat life's obstacles.
I have had many guitar teachers myself including one true Famous Rock Star legend here in Pacific NW. Congrats Rog. U Earned It, & inspire myself, & others everyday.
You got to know the rules 1st, before you can then break the rules. This is how you develop your own unique style. And it's what separates the Pro Players from the rest of the pack.
But even if you don't want to play professionally, maybe you just want to learn a few chords, licks, songs, for yourself, or to impress friends. That's okay too!
I welcome every level and style. I always learn something from my students.
That's what music is all about. Learning & trading tips and licks from other musicians.
Bottom Line Is... I can help you learn and progress on your instrument faster...
Let me be the Music Coach to get you there!

As extra income, I started my own successful Internet Marketing Business in 2000. I sell other peoples products online for a nice commission. I'm very good at this and have been working part time from home or a bus, and making full time income with it. It allows me to choose who I work with, and what hours I choose to work. I started coaching others how to legitimately do this about a year or so ago. I Still do affiliate marketing to this day. More as part time now.+ Read More
I have been in and out of various bands and done studio work since 1993 to present.
I have played, recorded & taught music professionally since around 1998.
Here is where I continued after my job at KXRX radio.
Here, I continued to network with industry insiders as well as professional working musicians and here is where I decided to go into music as a performer full time. I have been studying, performing and teaching music ever since. & I have played with some amazing performers.
I love Teaching Music Because Of The Confidence It Instills In My Students, Not Just In Music, But In The Handling Of Life's Many Obstacles..
This is where I started working right out of college, met some great professional music talent and started networking for my my own music career.
Another great lesson! Thanks
Excellent trainer. Very knowlegable and easy to work with
Matthew is great! Very informative and helpful. Not hard to tell that he really cares for his students success.

Good assessment of child's starting point. Wonderfully enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Great introduction into drum kit (we called it drum set in my day). At that point, needed to slow down and give child more fundamental practice time to soak in the concepts before racing on.+ Read More
If you are looking for someone to teach bass by reading of sheet music, stop now and get back some of your precocious tim.
Matt teaches how you how to play by ear. I have yet to see a chord chart or any sheet music. He emphasizes timing, counting and not getting in the way of the train. if you want to become a musician who can sit in with others, have a good time playing, be ready for the stage, this is the place.
I gave this instructor two of my five lesson slots to see if perhaps the first lesson was just an off day. In lessons in the past I've been set up with some structure and learning materials. During these lessons, it was mostly just listening to a song on youtube to try to get the main basic components of this song. No sheet music, just a name of a chord (aka Em 7) that I kept trying to get the instructor to explain but to no avail. I asked if he could slow down and go over the first part so I could understand before moving onto another concept but I just got a "you'll get there, you'll figure it out". For the second lesson, he had a print out of guitar chords (I was there for piano lessons) but it was for a song I know and love so figured I could figure it out but again, it was too fast paced and when I asked to slow down for understanding of one part before moving to the next I was met with more "you'll get there". At the end of the lesson, he had me take a picture of the printed out guitar chords with lyrics....its was on a piece of printer paper and I couldn't even take that home? For $70 an hour I would at least like a piece of printer paper so I don't have to hold my phone with one hand while I play with the other. Chalk it up to a difference in teaching and learning style if you like but I felt like these lessons were chaotic and that I was asking for my learning needs to be met and they were not.+ Read More
Very patient and excellent at explaining the work.
Matthew is clearly a superb instructor and extremely knowledgeable musician. By asking a few questions and listening to the responses (this was my first lesson with Matthew) he was able to quickly assess my skill level. As a result of his assessment, he used an appropriate instructional technique and developed a lesson plan specifically for me. His approach toward teaching is solid; I say that as someone who has a Masters Degree in Teaching! He encouraged me to build a goal plan (short and long term) and clearly identified a practice routine that will help me achieve those goals. I'm already looking forward to the next lesson. Thank you Matthew!+ Read More
It was fun
matthew is a wealth of knowledge. he is very approachable and makes subject matter fun and easy to understand. i have taken other subjects from him and plan on taking more with him in the future.
Fun, knowledgeable guy who is very passionate about music! Great with our teens. Highly recommend!
Mathew is awesome! We did have a few problems, there was a big lag in the internet and the screen kept freezing, also the quality of the video was fuzzy, so it made it hard to see what he was showing us. I think if these problems are addressed I would give a 5 star review, for Convience if Jessen and 5 stars for Matthew and his teaching g style!+ Read More
Extremely patient. Very knowledgeable. Takes the time to make sure you covered what you wanted to cover and you understood the lesson
Matt provided an awesome learning experience through down to earth, easy to understand explanations. Trying to figure harmonica playing out on my own for 2 years, I had heard of some of the concepts he taught with the music theory, but when he explained it, it actually made sense. Before this lesson, I mostly played along with the lyrics of songs that I know. After going over and learning the song "low rider", which is a new song for me, I am encouraged to seek out songs that have harmonica parts. One of my original goals in taking lessons is to learn to be able to improvise and I was given the opportunity to play the harmonica while Matt played the guitar. The hour was packed with information and harping and I am looking forward to my next lesson. If you are looking for an awesome instructor, I highly recommend Matt.+ Read More

Matthew is great, He goes way above what I expected. He takes the time to research the themes for any issues. I would recommend 150%..

He spent his own time to correct the issue. He also is very helpful at getting you to see the total site to create a cohesive website.

Excellent lesson and teacher.
I had an awesome first lesson with Matt he definitely exceeded my expectations. I paid for a 30min session and received an entire 1 1/2 hour info session full of valuable information. Matt is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the subject and I feel like I am learning from someone that not only can talk the talk, but also walk the walk. If our first session is any indication of how the rest of our sessions will go, then I will be signing up for more lessons.
He is informative thorough prompt and respectable. I could not have asked for a better instruct for my first time on take lessons. Thanks Matt and I look forward to our future lessons.
Matthew is a fantastic instructor and he has a lot of patients. I am a new drummer and he thought me and my two boys on how to drum and now after about a year we can actually enjoy drumming and we are having a blast. My older has special needs and I am so impressed that he will actually come and play the drums on his own now which would have never happened without Matthews teaching. My younger boy is doing so well too. We will continue to take lesson even with our busy schedules since we really enjoy our lessons with Matthew. Thank you Matthew.+ Read More

My 7 year old daughter is a first time Harmonica player and my wife and I are not musically inclined at all! Matthew is excellent, by the end of our first session she could understand notes and chords, which were all foreign to us before we started. After our very first lesson, my daughter was able to play Low Rider well enough to where the common ear could hear it. Bottom line is he is patient and and takes time to explain and my daughter loves it so that is the biggest win.+ Read More
Mathew has a very approachable way of teaching music theory and it's application. He has a wealth of knowledge which is evident in how he speaks to me( his student), his accomplishments, and how his lesson plans are laid out. I have attended many other tutors where the curriculum was dull and uncomprehensive. With Matthew he took the time to find out who and what I liked and aspired to sing like, then made a tailored plan allowing me to sing songs that I want to. Matthew takes an approach that simplifies theory and makes it fun. I look forward to more lessons with him, and will look into guitar lessons with him as well+ Read More
This harmonica teacher is helping me pretty good as far as learning how to play the harmonica step by step.

First lesson was super informative and helpful! Can't wait for the upcoming one!
My first lesson with Matthew was great. He dove right into my priority checklist of things to discuss and offered helpful and easy to do tips right off the bat. Already during the second half of our lesson, Matthew was very helpful in identifying "golden nuggets" with some of the core things I need to be working on. Matthew definitely the "Go to Guy" to help you with your word press sites.+ Read More

Wonderful teacher - made things clear and fun to work with!
I am so glad I chose Matthew as my instructor! He is very helpful and knowledgeable. I highly recommend!
Matthew had good content in the teaching and was really flexible with scheduling. Regarding the online lessons - there were computer troubles and the connection was somewhat disrupted with computer issues.

I liked the way that Matt listens to the songs I like and within seconds he's able to play them by ear. Hopefully and with some more training and lessons I will be able to get on that level. Other than that I have no complaints.
Very good class
My son had a good time taking lessons from Matthew. Matthew was patient and helpful with Skype when we were not familiar with it. He explained the instrument very throughly. My son learned a lot and we hope to take lessons again in the future.
You are really great with Ben, btw. I like how you are patient with him, compliment him and encourage him. He clings on your every word. He is also very impressed with the talent you bring to the table when you play at the lessons. It's fun to be a part of that!

Matthew has the ability to be given very hard challenges of teaching and breaking them down into an easy to understand format were you learn more then just how to play a song.
James is really enjoying his lessions with Matthew. He has been a great role-modle and easy to get along with.
