Singing with Mary Kay B.

Hi My name is Mary Kay I am a Music Education major at VanderCook College of Music. I am a trombone major and vocal minor. I've been singing for 16 years and playing Trombone for 15 years. I am very patient and I love to sing and play trombone, I love to teach. I've grown as a teacher through out my time here at school, and my passion for what I do grows deeper. I enjoy playing music every day , but also love to do photography , knitting, or crocheting. Some other things I love to do besides music is photography, dancing, and knitting scarves for friends. I love going out to the zoo or little red school house and take pictures of nature. I also like to go bike riding either having it just around my neighborhood or when around a trail by my house. I find it one exercising and also a great stress reliever because I can't run with my sprained arch muscle in my feet. I love planting flowers and I love hanging out with my friends on Friday or Saturday nights playing guitar and singing and just watching movies. *** Lesson Details *** In the first couple of lessons, I will have them bring in something that they would like to work on . I will also give them a pretest to see where they are knowledge wise . After the pretest I would go into for voice is to getting used to what their body does when they sing. After 3- 6 months of lessons with me I will introduce them to different kinds of music like jazz, opera, musical theater .etc I am a very laid back kind of teacher rarely do I ever get strict, only if need be . I except my students to at least practice 3- 4 times a week for a half hour. I know and understand that we all get busy . Thats why I only ask for 3-4 times a week. I also understand if you forget to practice we run busy lives between activities. I want to make my lessons fun. Each lesson for children i make a practice log that the parents need to sign and each time they bring it to me for a lesson I put a sticker on it and by having so many stickers by the end of the month I will give them a reward for example they get to pick a fun song to sing on the next lesson. *** Studio Equipment *** 1) Living room/ seating for parents in the process of getting a portable piano. *** Travel Equipment *** I do have a car, I don't have a portable piano , If I need to travel that is ok by me. *** Specialties *** I am classically trained i like classical pieces and band pieces
