If you are a beginner you will love lessons with me. I put an emphasis on having fun. No previous music experience is required. I have 30 years of experience teaching and it is not necessary for you to read music in order to study lever harp (aka Celtic harp) with me. Together we can play Celtic, Traditional, Popular, Rock and Roll or whatever pleases you. There is a variety of styles that can be played on a simple 26 string harp.
As a graduate of Ohio University in Athens Ohio, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Therapy. My post-graduate work in harp was done at Lewis and Clark College in Portland Oregon. In addition, I studied Music Composition at the University of Central Florida.
My freelance performance career has taken me to California, Washington, Oregon, British Columbia, North Carolina and Florida. One of my most memorable gigs was playing on an Alaska cruise ship.
Since I teach lever harp (aka Celtic harp) it is not necessary for you to pay $10,000 or more to acquire your instrument. If you don't have a harp yet, I can give you advice on how to find one that is affordable and easy to load into the back seat of your car.
Please let me share with you the joy of playing the harp. It's not as difficult as you think.

About Mary Z.

Whether you are studying harp or music theory with me, you will find me to be a patient teacher who loves teaching. Lessons should be fun and motivational and keep you wanting more. Beginners are the best. I love to help them reach that "ah ha" moment.
To study harp with me, it is not necessary to be able to read music. I teach by example to ensure good technique right from the beginning. The same is true if you want to study music theory. We can start with the basics and build a good foundation of knowledge.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy and I am comfortable working with special needs students. For 30 years I have taught and performed throughout the continental USA, Canada and Alaska My most memorable gig was on an Alaska cruise ship. Did I mention that I played harp for the King of Tonga when he visited Seattle? At the Seattle Composer's Competition for New Harp Music, two of my pieces won first and second place. My published music has been sold all over the world.
As you can see, I bring a wealth of experience to the lesson. I look forward to being your teacher.
