I am the rare combination of a teacher AND a professional singer! I am suitable for people of all ages and levels. Please read below!
A the moment, I'm working abroad in Lebanon with an NGO helping to develop a Music Program for Palestinian Refugees. (July 2019) After that, I'll be singing Woglinde in Das Rheingold in Berlin with full orchestra (August 2019).
In September 2019 I'll make my debut in Varna Opera singing one of my signature roles, Nedda in i Pagliacci. Other upcoming roles include Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and covering the title role in Tosca with North Wales Opera (September 2019).
I also recently made my Sofia National Opera debut (January-April 2019) in the modern chamber opera "Katze Ivanka" as the title role. I'm very busy singing lots of operatic repertoire in solo concerts as well as on the operatic stage.
I am in an interesting environment as I travel often and hear a lot of great voices around me. My environment is healthy but also competitive which forces me to be on my best game at all times.
I think my experience as an opera singer is valuable for a singer of any level or musical interest as singing this art form (opera) requires a strong grasp of technique. If you do not have technique, you will not survive. Operatic singing is not about blowing your vocal cords out, it is about economical singing-understanding how the vocal cords work, how to use breath support effectively (and there are different variants of breath support!) etc; If you are having vocal problems such as hoarseness, difficulty with top notes or pain-I think I am the one to help you. If you are a high school student wanting to shape up your singing, I think I can help you! If you are an amateur who loves to sing but have no idea how to make improvements, I can help you!
My confidence in my ability as a teacher is because I am a certified Music Educator who's worked in high level International Schools for the past 6 years. I have worked a lot with both adults and children extensively in professional settings. In my former job I was responsible for lot of concerts, theatrical productions and instrumental concerts.
If you have a child interested in doing lessons, I may be a great option. I have enthusiasm and in general students seem to really like working with me. In my former job I had high numbers of participation in all of the ensembles which was essentially due to the fact that students enjoyed working with me. I also conducted an adult choir for a few years when living in the Middle East.
Basically, if you pick me-you are getting a great bang for your buck. Singing is a tricky business. A lot of people "teach" singing but have no idea what they are talking about...since we can sing naturally, some people claim to know how to teach it.
With me, you get a professional, patient and experienced teacher and singer!

Mary was my first singing teacher and honestly, I could not have asked for anyone better. She taught me everything from the blindingly obvious basics of vocal technique to the more subtle nuances of history and context behind pieces. She also taught vocal technique in a very intuitive way, so that you always knew where the sound came from and how every slight change in posture or mouth shape affected the quality and character of sound.
Her singing lessons have been truly invaluable to me and are the reason I still actively sing today. Thanks to her that I was also able to get a singing scholarship at my uni.
Mary made my dream come true by preparing me for the title role in one of the world's favourite family musicals, the beloved "Jesus Christ Superstar!". Mary's incredible insight into the music and her natural ability to make people feel at ease meant I was rocking out those high notes in no time!Show More
I’ve made incredible progress since starting lessons with Mary! I feel more confident and know that Mary can guide me well because of her on-stage experience!
Thank you and looking forward to continuing the lessons!
Mary is very patient and knowledgeable in how the voice works. I've been working with her for a few months ( I'm a beginner) and she has been very patient and helpful. I've seen lots of improvement working with her.
Very friendly and very helpful! It’s always fun and motivating working with Mary and I’ve already improved after only a few months of working with her!
I have only been working with mary for about 3 months. But I have seen great improvements in my singing techniques. She provides great warmup that work on all aspects of the voice to ensure that the voice is developed in all registers. She is a wonderfully encouraging and enthusiastic teacher while also being extensively knowledgeable about technique. She is serious about improving skills but also makes the lessons comfortable and fun. I really like the convience of scheduling lessons and doing lessons online. She is also very good with german and french diction.Show More
Mary is a great voice teacher with great skills. She makes you rethink the whole process of singing, with out-of-the-box techniques! Highly recommend her!
Mary made me feel very comfortable singing and helped me figure where I needed to improve and how to go about it. Highly recommend.
Mary Vallaincourt was a personal mentor to me during my student-teaching internship in Bahrain in completion of my studies in Music Education at the University of Southern Maine, USA.
Not only did she guide me through my first classroom teaching experiences, she also taught me valuable lessons in both vocal and non-vocal performance. I worked closely with her for six months and was able to witness her professionalism first-hand. She’s a wonderful teacher and a wonderful artist. If you have the opportunity to work with her, don’t miss it.
Miss you, Mary :)

Mary has consistently delivered sound vocal advice for my students that I've referred to her. I highly recommend her for her vast knowledge and ability to explain complex concepts in an accessible way for optimal learning. A fine teacher. 5 stars!
Mary's teaching is well paced and mild - mannered. She helped me push my vocal talent further. She coached me through a local production of Wicked, which went very well. Thanks Mary :)
Mary is diligent in her line of work and has most certainly helped me a lot in many ways such as with my vocal training. She was very kind and considerate throughout our lessons and has done her utmost to help me reach my fullest potential!
Mme Vaillancourt is a wonderful teacher. She is attentive, patient and creative. Her breathing exercises and vocalises helped me reach a better vocal performance and I am very grateful for it.
Mary really knows her stuff. Excellent teacher. She doesn’t waste time; rather she fill the lesson with helpful exercises and explanations that are tailored to your voice and being out your best sound. Highly recommended.
Mary was highly instrumental to developing my Ear training skills. Through different excercises I find I am more sensitive to pitch and recognising intervals and chords etc.
She was very patient and had relevant feedback to the problems I was having, and achieved very quick results
Mary is an amazing teacher. First of all, she is well versed on technique and well trained. Second of all she is an inspiration -- both extremely talented and hard working. Third, she is entirely devoted to her students: tuned in, respectful, a good listener, responsive, encouraging, providing wonderful diagnostics and bringing the right expertise and training to raise students to new levels. She is a whirlwind of talent, hard work, experience and devotion.Show More
Mary started teaching my daughters when she was in Maine after a friend recommended her. When she returned to Bulgaria, they started online lessons, which have been convenient and successful. Mary has gone above and beyond, offering online warm ups before auditions and additional support during solos. Mary has been instrumental in helping them step outside their comfort zone, in our aging them to audition whenever possible to get more experience. She balances the wants of my teenager to sing more pop music with the enthusiasm to encourage them to also try more challenging music. I highly recommend Mary if your child is serious about improving their musicality.Show More
Mary is a very thoughtful, caring person and teacher.
My daughter takes voice lessons from Mary and has improved very much with both her voice and her confidence. Mary is dedicated to her students, offering extra support when an audition or big performance is coming up. We have been very grateful for this!
My daughters started taking lessons with Mary when she was home in Maine. I was sceptical of online lessons when she returned to Bulgaria and returned to her opera, but I was happily surprised. Mary helped both of my daughters markedly improve. The time difference makes some scheduling challenging, but Mary works very hard to accommodate. Not only has she been wonderful about working with my busy girls schedules, she has gone above and beyond, setting up times to warm the girls up for auditions on site via FaceTime I can’t recommend Mary highly enough. She is relatable to my teenagers, challenges them, encourages them, and has helped marked improve my daughters performance.Show More
I have been taking vocal lessons with Mary for about a year and a half and have made great progress vocally. She is always very constant and communicates well. At first I was nervous to take lessons via face time/ Skype, but it works very well. From preparing for auditions to working on classical or modern music she always helps to improve my sound and how I present myself. I would highly recommend her if you are looking to improve your voice.Show More

I've got a lot of different organized methods and curriculum that can be used to develop one's Music Theory and Ear Training.
As a teacher, I've done a lot of Kodaly Method based things with beginners that can help establish basic musical skills and terminology etc;
I also spent an extensive amount of time preparing students for exams in Music Theory & Ear Training for both ABRSM and Trinity (which are International Recognized Exams from the UK).
Fortunately I have a lot of wide ranging, organized curriculum based material to help any student (of varying levels) get on the right track to improving Music Theory & Sight Singing in general!
