Banjo with Marty T.

I fell in love with playing the banjo the first time I picked it up in my freshman year of high school and I haven’t looked back since. In the time since then, I’ve played in several bands, in competitions, on tv and radio, and my favorite of all, in lots of community jam sessions. I want to see my students have similar experiences and tap into this rich musical tradition and community! As an LGBTQ person, I am not exactly in your typical demographic of banjo players. I want to open up ideas about who can play banjo and join this community. I encourage anyone young or old to start playing banjo but want to emphasize to LGBTQ people, people of color, and anyone else who feels different from your typical idea of a banjo player that you are welcome in this space!
