Washington State Parks

Park Interpretive Specialist and Director, Moran Outdoor School: Ran the outdoor school program where we taught classes in the park to students who traveled there from the ten western states of the US. Moran State Park is located on Orcas Island and has over 6,000 acres and 26 miles of trails. I hired, trained and supervised a staff of 25.

Sequoia's Farm and Forest School

Working with Sequoia of "Sequoia's Treehouse" I programed, developed the curriculum, did the state paperwork, and taught the first semester of the 5th Certified all day outdoor Preschool in the State of Washington for the pilot project that the state was hosting. Look them up online to see some of the programming that continues to take place there. I trained new staff and moved on to other projects after the state paperwork was completed and the school was well off the ground.

Mareas Academy, Samara, Costa Rica

In the small, remote coastal town of Samara, Costa Rica is a bilingual (English/Spanish) International School for students from around the globe. I provided enhanced science lessons and field trips for the school, and subbed for teachers, all subjects, in grades 1-12.

Busan Foreign School

At an elite International School in Busan, South Korea, I taught Urban Agriculture to grades 6-8; Pre Algebra to grade 7, Environmental Science to grades 10-12, Marine Science to grades 9-12, and AP Environmental Science for grades 10-12.

OASIS (Orcas Alternative Student Initiated Studies) Middle and High School

When my district decided to open an alternative school, they asked if I would set it up and run it. I did so, keeping in mind that we had many alternative students to serve. We had some a few students wishing to take classes that our small district didn't offer. (Film making, Portuguese, Latin, Tai Chi..you name it!) We had some students that needed to travel a lot and be gone because they were world class performers-- a skier, a cello player, a concert pianist. We had some students that just really wanted to be done with High School and get into community college. We had others that needed to work full time and take classes asynchronously. And we had students with medical issues that could not attend school full time because they had surgeries and long recovery periods, or other medical issues. Under the Alternative Learning Laws here in WA state, I fashioned a school that has now stood the test of time. During the first four years of my tenure, I was the lone teacher at the school. Although I left in 2013, it is still going strong.

This certification is the world standard for teaching English. Although I have worked for years doing this work, I decided to get this certificate last year to update my skills.
