Hello! My name is Mark. I am a classically trained pianist. I have been playing the piano for 12 years and have been teaching for 7 years. I like to give my students the opportunity to not only progress in skill, but also enjoy what they are learning! Lessons are focused on five things: note reading, theory, technique, musicianship and musical history/context. My specialty is in teaching classical music (Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, etc.). I can also teach pop and modern new age styles as well. Advanced students are geared towards classical repetoire. The system Mark uses over the years of teaching is based on two fundamental principles- The importance of developing sound traditional skills and the strong conviction that you should always tailor the method to the student and never tailor the student to the method. I have maintained a full studio of 49 students in my studio located here in Alaska, whom I teach online too. I have taught about many students successfully in my area. Lessons are available for anyone in the world, including all fifty states. Lessons are conducted in English. I currently teach from preschoolers starting at age 5 to advanced adults. I like teaching students a variety of music styles to allow them to be a more rounded musician. I am currently the Chairman of the NFMC in my state. My students participate in recitals, festivals, competitions, and local school talent shows. I manage and plan meetings in my local town for piano teachers to discuss from festival planning, and teaching ideas. I have created many unique methodologies that detail how to learn and memorize music with maximum efficiency (much more information a few paragraphs down). And of course, I show my students how to conquer technical and musical difficulties in order to develop into artists with their own voices. As a result, my students often progress extremely quickly and attain high levels of playing in a fraction of the usual time required. They also seem to truly enjoy the process.
