About Mark S.
I'm a saxophonist/woodwind player/composer living in Miami and currently finishing my doctorate at the University of Miami. I've been teaching instrumental performance, improvisation, music theory, and composition for 20+ years in every situation from solo master classes, University lectures, large ensembles, private lessons, and elementary school.
My current doctoral essay focuses on how to teach improvisation in any setting with any instrumentation and I hope to implement this as a class for music educators.
Because we all have such different learning styles, I pride myself on finding out exactly what a student wants to accomplish and tailoring exercises and explanations specifically to the student rather than a stock pedagogy for everyone.
I perform regularly around the Miami area as well as travel internationally for tours. My current performance schedule can be seen at small music dot com. Also currently teaching saxophone and theory at the New World School for the Arts
