Playing the trumpet is a joy and passion I love sharing with my students. Seeing each trumpeter progress as an individual on a path of discovery and learning gives me pride and pleasure. From beginners to high school and college students, to come-back players, I help each student create and set goals, and encourage them in the musical journey we make together. I’ve taught hundreds of students of every level and discovered many secrets along the way to performing better with greater ease and efficiency. My 25 years of trumpet teaching experience and 13 years serving as Principal Trumpet with an orchestra have given me a wealth of musical knowledge which enriches my teaching methods. From smart practicing tips to performance techniques, I help all my students get the best preparation advice. My experience as a trumpet soloist in Europe and the USA working with orchestras, pianists, vocalists, and organists has also given me a deep understanding of the art of music making as a soloist. I have taught at colleges, public and private schools, as well as an international school in Portugal. I am now looking to expand my studio online, and invite new students who are excited about playing the trumpet. Studying trumpet methodologies has given me insight into solving many problems brass students encounter as they learn to play. My methods help students tackle challenging music, understand theory and harmony, and prepare technically, musically, and emotionally for performances. My students learn how to extend their range up and down the horn, broaden their tonal and dynamic palette of sound, and gain confidence and endurance in their playing abilities. Through coaching and creative imagination, I empower my students to reduce performance anxiety and develop more comfort and control in playing the trumpet. My students benefit also from learning techniques I’ve developed such as informed sight reading, transposition freedom, tone enhancement, breath control, ornamentation and improvisation. I have great teachers to thank from the Boston Symphony, Boston Pops, Philadelphia Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic and other orchestras, as well as trumpet soloists who shaped and broadened my knowledge over many years of study.
