The process of unlocking, discovering, and understanding your voice is an intimate and exciting process and I love to partner with my students on this journey. I have had incredible teachers in my life who have inspired me tremendously, and it is my goal to build a trusting relationship with my students in this same way. I truly believe that anybody can sing, and I realize how important it is that my students feel comfortable and safe trying out new things and expressing vulnerability.

Lessons will be completely individualized within the framework of learning a healthy vocal technique and a mix of healthy vocal repertoire. We will work together to meet your goals and find your unique voice. My experience is in working with children, teenagers, young adults and adults of all ages and backgrounds. We have worked on a wide range of vocal genres, styles, languages, repertoire and topics. I cannot wait to meet you!

As an active operatic soprano, opera is my pride and joy.
I strive to help people develop their own unique singing voice, working on breath, vowels, and vocal placement. I have sung leading roles in both opera companies and leading universities and conservatories in the Pacific Northwest and New York City alike.

Lessons will be completely individualized and I have a specific concentration in the production of a healthy classical technique and have vast experience with choosing vocal repertoire.

About Marissa M.

*Will be able to travel for in-home/apartment lessons in the NYC metro area beginning in mid-July for vaccinated students!*

Singing is my passion and I absolutely love teaching all ages and all styles of singing. No matter what your goals are, I would love to help you in your journey! I've worked with complete beginners to working professionals, and I strive to create a welcoming and nurturing learning environment where it is safe to learn and be vulnerable. I especially love working with singers who want to increase their vocal range and work on vocal registration. Additionally, I am currently working on my Yoga Certification, which has increased my love of working with students interested in finding body and voice awareness from within.

The process of unlocking, discovering, and understanding your voice is an intimate and exciting process. I love to partner with my students on this journey; I have been so lucky to have incredible teachers in my life who give me so much inspiration.

I have completed my Master of Music from Mannes School of Music in New York City, as well as my Bachelor of Music from Pacific Lutheran University and my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Pacific Lutheran University.

Lessons will be completely individualized within the framework of learning a healthy vocal technique and a mix of healthy vocal repertoire. We will work together to meet your goals and find your unique voice. Please feel free to reach out anytime with questions and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I cannot wait to meet you!

Marissa is an excellent teacher. She has been teaching my eleven-year-old who is just starting out with voice (and was feeling very nervous). Marissa did a great job of helping her feel at ease, and working with her. She says that Marissa is always kind and friendly and she's learning a lot.

I took several singing lessons with Marissa this summer and had so much fun! My goals were to better understand important aspects of using your voice as an instrument- gaining better control and breathing techniques. I learned a lot and gained confidence in my singing. I would love to take lessons with Marissa again in the future!

I studied with Marissa for two years when we both lived in the same area she moved and I went off to college. She is such a positive, kind and hard-working teacher. On the rare occasion that she doesn't know something, she does her homework and comes back with a novel of information. If I was ever unsure about a concept and none of her (many) techniques worked, she would always heavily research before the next lesson. She was always great at communicating with her students and goes above and beyond. She has a great reputation and was able to help me get into my dream college. My voice teacher here is very impressed with what I have learned from her.

I am currently working with Marissa to improve my vocal range and ability. Singing is simply a hobby for me, but I am in my church choir. Marissa has been assisting me in not only technique but also showing me the relationship between my choir singing and solo pieces. She is also very kind, organized, and never speaks "above" me.

I needed help polishing up some music for an audition, and Marissa was great. Very kind, helpful, and reassuring, and because of her help I was able to have a much better audition. She really is very knowledgeable about both solo and choral singing.
