Yoga with Marisa - Breathe and flow into peace!

Come breathe and flow with me in either private or group yoga sessions! We will explore a wide range of asanas that will benefit the mind, body and open the heart. Attention will be given to the correct forms of each pose so as to prevent injury and maintain healthy joints. Through relatable imagery, I will guide the student into poses that offer proper alignment, twists, hip openers and backbends, just to name a few. We will also explore varying breathing techniques and learn how to use our breath in relation to our flow. Some light meditation will also be introduced to promote a peace within. We will always start with a thorough warm up in order to prepare the muscles for strength conditioning. The warm up and cool down will directly correlate to the poses being taught, so as to prevent injury. Correct form will always be enforced. After the warm up, a typical class could involve Sun Salutations, standing and seated asanas. Varying flows will be taught each week giving focus to specific muscle groups and/or proper alignment of the spine. All levels will benefit as I love to challenge my students with as much as they can handle. I also love to give variations to choose from, so that all will feel comfortable and welcome. One of the learning objectives will be to focus the mind and learn to be present in the given moment. Mental, physical and emotional awareness should build within the child as they grow in their practice. This knowledge should prove helpful to the child on and off the mat. Differing variations of Sun Salutations will be clearly taught to give the student a versatility within their flow. A wide variety of beginner and intermediate asanas in their correct forms will be introduced/practiced each week. This will include both seated positions for flexibility and standing positions for strength and balance. I am a qualified Hatha and Vinyassa Yoga Instructor and spent 1 month doing intensive training with yogis in Thailand. There I attained my 200 hour teacher certification. In the program, I received thorough training in how to teach the correct forms of each asana, in order to protect the body from injuries (knees, spine, neck, wrists etc). I highly recommend having water accessible during practice, although it is recommended in yoga to hydrate mostly beforehand and afterwards, so as to allow the heat to build within the body. But as this is a virtual class, I encourage the child to drink as much as they need! Please be aware of potential injuries that could incur if the child doesn’t follow the given instruction correctly. That said, this class is very safe and I will carefully lead the child into each pose taught. If you feel more comfortable, feel free to join the child for class so that you are nearby to help guide as well.

I have been a musical theater performer for 15 years and have performed regionally, all over the country and on Broadway. I began teaching full time two and a half years ago and offer private and group lessons in voice, acting, dance, audition prep and yoga. I focus on healthy vocal technique and honest storytelling through singing. I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the University of Florida. I also have two teaching certifications, one of which is a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Certification. I attained it at One Yoga School in Kho Pha-ngan, Thailand. I specialize in Vinyassa and Hatha Yoga. I hold high expectations for my students regarding their work ethic and lesson preparation. I endeavor to give positive, constructive critique through the lens of encouragement.

My daughter tried several voice teachers before finding Marisa, and we feel so lucky to have found her - she is amazing! She gives excellent constructive feedback and is very encouraging, warm, and positive. My daughter has always loved to sing, but she loves it even more now because she feels more powerful and confident, and she knows how much she has grown and improved. I’ve considered trying to find an in-person teacher now that my family is back doing things in-person as we were doing pre-pandemic, but honestly, I don’t know if we’ll find one as great as Marisa, so we are very happily continuing with her!

My daughter has been taking private voice and various group (acting, singing, dance) lessons with Marisa for a year. Marisa's instruction has been an absolute blessing! Our daughter struggled with prior school music teachers not explaining things or being overly negative or simply not giving proper instruction. Marisa's instruction is comprehensive and well-rounded, and she takes the time to fully explain/discuss topics when needed. Marisa has so much knowledge she is willing to share and supports my daughter with all her questions/concerns. I appreciate constructive feedback, and as a result, my daughter both expects and respects feedback. Marisa knows exactly how to be supportive and encouraging while delivering the perfect amount of constructive feedback. She doesn't miss an opportunity for a teaching moment but at the same time, never overwhelms. My daughter just completed her first main stage show and I felt so prepared with everything Marisa had taught her (and me!) about audition books and headshots and resumes and the whole audition process! I am so grateful that we found Marisa and that my daughter has such and wonderful and talented mentor.

When our 14-year-old daughter started to show interest in music and theatre, I began searching for someone who could teach voice lessons and acting lessons. In addition, we needed someone who could be versatile in voice lessons for theatre and choir. Luckily I found Marisa online. My daughter's been with her for nearly a year now. Marisa is always positive. After every lesson, my daughter is excited and optimistic about her abilities. My daughter has shied away from auditioning for primary roles in the past. However, since she's worked with Marisa, her confidence has grown. In the time she's been taking lessons, my daughter's had the opportunity to audition for two musicals, one Shakespearean play, and her high school choir(along with solo opportunities within the choir). After lessons with Marisa, she's been cast in a prominent supporting role in a musical, ensemble for the other musical, a prominent supporting role in the Shakespearean play, and has been invited to join the choir and chosen for solos in choir. Marisa's instruction and guidance have made all the difference for my daughter.
